|
|
Title: None yet...
Status: In progress/Unfinished
Rating: PG for now, some supernatural violence, language
Characters: Watari, Tatsumi, Tsuzuki
Genre(s): Mystery, Angst/Fluff, Action, AU(a little)
Summary: Tsuzuki and Tatsumi have been sent to investigate a case on earth, involving a college. There they meet Watari Yutaka, who becomes increasingly important to them and their investigation.
Notes: Tatsumi is filling in as Tsuzuki's temporary partner--so they've already 'broken up' (XDD). This is set in the lat sixties/early seventies. And since neither P-chan nor I know anything about Japanese culture at that time, a majority of such things is made up/based on American culture in similar decades.
So enjoy :3 _________________

|
|
Tatsumi: This wasn't his first trip to Japan or anything... and the man had grown up here. Also, he'd visited many times since his death. But still! Everything here, on this campus, felt so... unnatural to him. Tatsumi was dodging these children like a plague. And he definitely stood out.
Tatsumi: If there were this many outside, then how many would be inside? Maybe... they're having class outside.... Ah, but the children over there seem to be studying the improper use of affection out in public. Tatsumi averted his eyes towards the building. (Large and lovely he had to admit.) But that was... only one of the buildings. And Tatsumi wasn't entirely sure if he had been to this one or not. The Shinigami walked on, glancing around at the students, and turned a corner around the building.
Watari: And there was a... a.. boy.. (right? Well... they all had long-ish hair...) but this wiry, young (apparently) underclassman on the ground, at least twenty books scattered around begging for mercy from a couple juniors. He definitely stuck out with his curly, brownish-blond hair. (Maybe he was foreign?)
Tatsumi: Tatsumi stopped to take in the scene. Surely that poor child on the ground was a boy because if those were boys fighting with a young girl.... "Excuse me!" he said in a very harsh, instructor/higher up sort of tone. Tatsumi was now right up on them. Sadly, he proved to not have much self control and had grabbed the two attackers by their collars, pulling them back roughly. "What do you think you're doing?"
Watari: The 'in charge' one started speaking immediately. "O-oh sensei! We were just helping this poor young gentleman carry all of his books, seeing as he has so many of them!" The kid on the ground didn't say anything, just... stared at the sidewalk. (Hiding a purple bruise on his cheek.)
Tatsumi: Tatsumi jerked the boy's collar, shaking him up a bit. He met the "leader's" eyes, hoping the glare he was slightly famous for, was scaring the hell out of this youth. "I highly doubt that," he hissed through clenched teeth. (Poor child was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Tatsumi's day = not so happy)
Watari: The blond-ish kid stood up suddenly, and opened his mouth, revealing that he was both Japanese, and an Osakan native. "Please! It's... it's the truth." He was still staring at the sidewalk. "I... fell and they were helping me."
Tatsumi: "I see." Tatsumi hadn't broken eye contact with the one boy, the other still being held firmly in place. He brought the other closer so that he could mutter threateningly, "Next time you decide to help someone, don't try and pick on them. The world doesn't really need people like you, understand?"
Watari: When the opportunity presented itself, the two of them slunk away. (After thorough nodding at Tatsumi's threat.) The kid on the ground simply continued to pick up his books.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi kept up his high and mighty role until he could no longer see the two boys. He then softened his expression and turned to the boy. (He still had trouble believing he was... a "he.") Tatsumi leaned down to gather some books as well. "You have a lot of books here..." he said, breaking the silence.
Watari: "Yeah.. I have a lot of classes..." He gathered them in his arms, thanking Tatsumi with a nod.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi counted the books... and... "Just how many classes are you taking?" (He made a quick note of how this boy looked fairly familiar from reports he's looked at regarding his and Tsuzuki's case.) So, Tatsumi continued to play "sensei."
Watari: "Fourteen. I might pick up another one though, but I doubt they'll let me." He finally raised his eyes, to look at the other man, allowing a glance at his eyes encricled by thick black frames. His eyes were as unusual as his hair. They could have passed as a brownish-hazel, but they were too bright, too yellow for that. Instead they were a sharp gold and full of intelligence--but also they indicated that he was (probably) one of those rare mortals who were more in tune, more sensetive to the supernatural and paranormal.
Tatsumi: Though Tatsumi didn't know the usual amount of classes students take, he still knew that fourteen was a bit much. When he met the others eyes, he stood there a moment to try and decide what color they were. (And he looked deeper into those eyes, as if searching for something.) "Your name?" he smiled.
Watari: "Watari Yutaka," he said promptly, with a little bow.
Tatsumi: "And where are you headed to, Watari-kun?" Tatsumi still couldn't get over that hair....
Watari: "Um, I was about to go to lunch when I...fell. Now I'll just have to go straight to calculus."
Tatsumi: I am not getting him lunch. Tatsumi told himself, quickly hushing that first instinct he had when Watari had told him that. "I need to head in that direction as well." he said, shoving one hand into his pocket. "I'll accompany you."
Watari: Watari nodded. I don't... don't need a protector..They just caught me off guard.
Tatsumi: As they began walking, Tatsumi tried starting them on a conversation, anything. (It's always more difficult when you get these... silent types.) "You don't speak much, do you, Watari-kun?"
Watari: "Sorry. I spend most of my time thinking."
Tatsumi: He laughed lightly. "Don't apologize." Though he did understand. "But it might be better if you spoke your mind more." I need you to talk right now. And Tatsumi wasn't sure exactly how he was supposed to ask the questions he needed to. _________________

Watari: "How.. might it be better?" Watari seemed curious.
Tatsumi: How indeed? "It... would let others get a better understanding of you. Though if that's something you don't want, then I suppose silent is the way to go." That is not... what I meant to say. Tatsumi took that quick moment to wonder where in the hell Tsuzuki was.
Watari: This caused Watari to smirk slightly. "If you think you can understand me, sensei." His voice was suddenly touched by smugness.
Tatsumi: "It will also," he went on,(for some reason) smiling, "make others not feel so nervous around you." He glanced at Watari next to him.
Watari: That grin just seemed to get wider and wider. "You don't know me, do you sensei?"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi looked away again, looking forward as they walked. That grin made him feel slightly uneasy, but other than that, it was good to see the boy finally smile. (And Tatsumi couldn't help but feel a little proud over it.) "Well, no, not exactly. I did have to ask for your name, Watari-kun."
Watari: Watari chuckled. "Kimura-sensei, my physics teacher, says that whenever I open I mouth I'm just a confusing, arrogant, condescending asshole. And if it weren't for the fact that I'm so brilliant and could teach his classes better than he could, he'd beat my head in everyday." And his teacher was an advanced physics teacher, the sort of researcher that was featured in the news from time to time.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi stopped. "A teacher told you this???"
Watari: "Sure. And the rest of them think it, if they don't say it."
Tatsumi: "I suppose everyone has to deal with things their own way.... Such as being outdone by a student....." He still couldn't believe that, though. He could, however, see why the incident earlier might have happened. Didn't make it right, though.
Watari: He fought a yawn and slid his fingers under his glasses to rub at his eyes. "Hwaaah.. Sorry. Uf. I think I'll sleep through calculus... or chemistry." It was an off-hand comment, like it was normal to sleep through third and fifth level classes.
Tatsumi: "Do you not get enough rest?" Stress maybe? Stress over past incidents that have happened on campus?
Watari: "I have a lot of homework. Keeps me busy. Though I do a lot of it ahead of time." It was a way of saying 'no' without admitting some kind of fault.
Tatsumi: "I guess you do. Fourteen classes is a lot to keep up with." I need to stop with this chit chat and get to work...
Watari: Watari nodded. "It is..." And for the first time since this conversation started, he sounded weary. "And I've just joined the swim team this semester..."
Tatsumi: "Have you?" Tatsumi looked over Watari's form, looking over his structure.
Watari: "Uh-huh. I beat out those two other guys for the last spot on the team." He was perfection in training, apparently.
Tatsumi: "The two who were 'helping' you, Watari-kun?"
Watari: "Ah... yes..." His face went slightly red, making that purpling bruise stick out.
Tatsumi: "I see." Now was his chance. "Have you had any other problems, Watari-kun? Anything strange, odd, out of the ordinary?"
Watari: Watari went oddly silent at that, looking away. An answer as good as a 'yes.'
Tatsumi: Tatsumi stepped in front of Watari, stopping him. He rested his hands on the boy's shoulders. "I'm not asking you as a 'sensei' now, Watari. Please inform me now if you have or have noticed any problems." _________________

Watari: He shifted his books in his arms. "Well... I... I dunno. I.... keep getting this... strange......feeling." He was still avoiding the other's gaze.
Tatsumi: "Yes?" he said smoothly, hoping to encourage the other to talk.
Watari: "It's... all over campus and... well.. it.......makes things... harder.... difficult.. I mean... Like.. my professors. They, they've said that before but... lately they really... seem to mean it and.. fights break out everywhere.." And I feel so paranoid myself, I can't help but wonder if everyone I know wants to kill me...
Tatsumi: He felt his chest tighten, though he showed no real visible reaction. Or it seemed that way. Disturbed by the(helpful) information, Tatsumi managed to offer Watari a smile. "You were planning on sleeping through class anyway, why don't I treat you to lunch?"
Tatsumi: Keep you in sight. Learn more.
Watari: The boy stopped, nearly dropping some of his books again, "You mean.. you... you like me??" Most people hated him after talking with him! What did he do right this time?
Tatsumi: Tatsumi looked at him oddly for a moment before smiling again, a small laugh in his voice. "You aren't unbearable, Watari-kun. Now is that a yes or no? Not that I would really accept 'no' as an answer."
Watari: "Of, of course sensei." He gave the elder man a smile, and not that smug, obnoxious smirk of his.
Tatsumi: The smile was heart-warming, but it only made Tatsumi more determined to close this case. He didn't want to see it fade. "And let me help you with those." It was a command. He took at least three books from Watari's load, the books being more heavy than they looked. Dammit, I have no idea where that... cafeteria is. "If you would lead the way...."
Watari: The boy looked at him oddly, but only for half a moment. "Sure." He changed course, but it was clear, this kid--though he trusted Tatsumi--knew that something was up.
Tatsumi: No... wonder the boy is good at swimming... These books.... it's ridiculous! Tatsumi also couldn't help but wonder why on in the world Watari didn't.... put up more of a fight! He had faith the boy could've probably defended himself well.
Watari: Eventually they finally made their way to a cafeteria, where students could pay and get all manner of unhealthy, high-energy food.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi tried to give off the presence that he had been here before, so he just looked around calmly, taking note of the details, students and staff.
Watari: Watari picked up a tray, and got some udon soup, rice, and octopus balls. ("Nowhere near as good as what you get in Kyoto or Osaka!") He also got a large serving of tea, and a (glass) bottle of caffinated soda.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi simply got some rice and tea. He would have rather gone without.... Paying for their lunches, he once again left it up to Watari as to where to seat themselves. (He also hoped another faculty member didn't come up and decide to question him. Luckily, so far, they all seemed like they could care less.)
Watari: "Just say you're my advisor or something if somebody asks," Watari said with a shrug, thanking his luck that there was still an open table by the windows. He made his way over and set the tray down, sliding into the tall chair with ease. (He was above average in height actually..) It was amazing how he balanced all those books and a tray full of food at the same time.
Tatsumi: The comment took him off guard and so he answered clumsily, "What do you mean....?" He took a seat also, setting the tray down first, then the books(which he had had in the other arm).
Watari: Watari stacked them neatly, splitting apart the disposable chopsticks provided. "You're looking around like you're nervous or something. Nobody cares. You're not a teacher, are you?" His question was just as blunt.
Tatsumi: He smiled over his cup of tea. "I'm not." He never did say he was.
Watari: "Thought so." He was questioning if this man was even administration but... somehow, Watari still trusted him. (Maybe just because the other man liked him...) The boy squinted suddenly, and removed his glasses, so he could clean them on his jacket, revealing... that he was no boy. He was twenty, at least.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi tilted his head, getting a better look at the boy's face now. He took another sip of tea when he realized he was staring. (And he had still not touched his rice.) Glad he doesn't seem to stressed over the fact that I'm not...
Watari: He left his glasses off for the moment, and then rubbed his temple, "I think I need a new prescription..." Too bad he didn't have the time to go see a doctor about it. (Or the money for a new pair of glasses for that matter.)
Tatsumi: Tatsumi suddenly realized he still hadn't fully introduced himself. "I'm Tatsumi Seiichiro, by the way."
Watari: "It's nice to meet you Tatsumi-sensei."
Tatsumi: He wondered if he could get Watari to drop the "sensei" part, but he might still need it. (Though if worst came to worst, he could say he was a cop.) "Do you feel strange right now, Watari?" He didn't want to ask that, or bring it up, honestly, while the other was trying to eat.
Watari: "No..." but... you do. He started on his soup.
Tatsumi: He saw that Watari wasn't making an effort to eat... so Tatsumi bravely began to eat his. (Not bad really, though it didn't really have the greatest look to it.) "You'll inform me when you do though, right?"
Watari: "...Sure... sensei." He looked up. "......You know... you have... kinda of an odd... feeling to you." Not the same, but... was it related somehow?
Tatsumi: "Do I?" he locked onto Watari's eyes, serious. "What kind of feel?"
Watari: Watari's golden eyes had to look away. "I don't know...prickly.. fuzzy." Like.. formaldehyde without the smell.
Tatsumi: "Bad?" he questioned, his gaze softening in hope that Watari would look at him again.
Watari: "No... just..." A little uncomfortable. He tried explaining slowly, letting the words just come out, "Like...that... presence that haunts nursing homes. That feeling of cold muscle and sharp steel in a dissection lab... like.. like a statue in a graveyard."
Tatsumi: You're very sensitive. he noted. "And you say that isn't bad?" he chuckled.
Watari: "It's better than whatever's going around school." He shrugged and went back to eating, commenting on it as casually as mentioning the latest cold bout.
Tatsumi: "About that..." He laced his fingers together and set his chin on top. "Can you tell me where exactly it may feel strongest?"
Watari: "It moves around... but it likes the student art gallery. I guess." _________________

Tatsumi: And just where was that at?? He needed to find a map of the area fast. "How often does it move around?"
Watari: "All the time really."
Tatsumi: "Does it feel like it's following you?"
Watari: "....Maybe. Yes." Watari changed his mind. "Yeah.. but.. I dunno, I think I might just be, paranoid, ya know?"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi flinched visibly, but ignored it, continuing. (He might have just felt it "move.") "It might be. But better safe than sorry, as they say. I'm sorry, I'll stop talking so that you can eat." He smiled.
Watari: "Thanks." Watari smiled, "For lunch and stuff I mean."
Tatsumi: "Thank me by eating as much as you can." No one, not even he, could force the lad to eat it all if he didn't want to. Meanwhile, Tatsumi's shadow was roaming around the cafeteria, hidden from mortal eyes, searching for another presence.
Watari: Watari put his (unflattering) glasses back on, and continued to eat, steadily and swiftly.
Tatsumi: He didn't feel anything... And he trusted Watari enough to tell him if he did. He thought back on the others words of "paranoid."
Watari: Watari then did something very annoying. He picked up one of his books, and opened it, reading as he ate, ignoring his table-mate.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi didn't seem to mind, focused on what he now "felt" again. (Did Watari really not feel it? He thought the boy was sensitive enough.) It was annoying. Being able to feel it move... but not find it! He finally turned to Watari and asked, "Do you feel anything now?"
Watari: "...A fight's probably gonna break out. If not here, then by the reflection pond. That's where there's the most people."
Tatsumi: Tsuzuki. Where the hell are you? Tatsumi let himself glance around the cafeteria again. "Think we should leave?" He couldn't harm mortals. Well, he most definitely could, but it wasn't wise.
Watari: Watari moved on to his octopus with another half-shrug. "I dunno. It's usually not too serious."
Tatsumi: In that case, he'll just sit back observe. "Does anyone usually try and stop it?"
Watari: "Eventually. The lunch people step in when it gets to be too intense...mm." He chewed, flipping another page in his book.
Tatsumi: "You really don't seem too worried over it."
Watari: "Should I be? I mean, the trust fund kids and the on-campus radicals don't get along anyways."
Tatsumi: As long as it doesn't involve you, I would guess it shouldn't worry you. Tatsumi began picking at his food again.
Watari: The boy rubbed at his eyes again. And mother's going to call again tonight... Watari took a sip of his tea. "How much time do you think being editor of the school paper would take up?"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi swallowed a bite of food. "I..." Don't know. ;;; "Well, how popular is it around here?"
Watari: Yup. Definitely not from this school. "Everyone reads it. Including the faculty, sensei." Watari smiled as he said the title mockingly.
Tatsumi: His lips twitched into a frown. He had apparently said the wrong thing and had now been found out. (Partly, anyway.) "Then I think it would be a little much for someone who's already got his hands full. Sounds like it would be stressful to begin with."
Watari: "I could do it." Probably. "Well, if they won't let me take that one extra class, I need to find something...Maybe a job? At the library... or a club.." He rubbed his eyes again. He was so tired lately...
Tatsumi: "You're going to over work yourself, Watari-kun. Do you really need a job? Or another class?" In his opinion, students Watari's age shouldn't be allowed to have a job. Unless worst came to worst and they needed to support themselves.
Watari: "Yes. I really do." He looked up, staring at Tatsumi for a few moments, ignoring a verbal fight going on on the other side of the cafeteria.
Tatsumi: A fight which Tatsumi should've been paying attention to, but at the moment, seemed more concerned over a student(who he didn't even know)'s choices. "May I ask why?"
Watari: "Because my mom and grandma are insane--and it runs in the family." And they want me to be as perfect as my father. Who hadn't spoken to him since he misspelled one word in the third grade.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi only nodded, understanding now. His expression fell, however, as it became clear that this student would always be pushing himself. And he couldn't stop the words until they were already out... "I'm sorry."
Watari: "It's okay." Watari said. "I don't mind."
Tatsumi: "You don't mind having so much weight on your shoulders?" Now he was just prying where he shouldn't.
Watari: "It's not that much really, and it's my fault to begin with. I was taking sixteen classes last semester, so now they think I'm slacking off and wasting my talents." The 'fight' had escalated to a shouting match now.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi finally directed his attention to the fight, putting the task of getting into someone else's business on hold for a moment. "Do you know who they are?" he asked referring to the people arguing.
Watari: "The long-haired kids are part of the Students for Political Reform movement, and the others are the rich kids placed here by daddy's pocketbook, and not necessarily by their own talents."
Tatsumi: "Why do you think they're fighting right now?"
Watari: "I dunno... human nature?" He propped his head up on his hand and watched as it degraded into insults being yelled at each other. "A lot of their fathers," he nodded at the trust fundees, "And a couple grandfathers are politicians. Different viewpoints." Ah there it was. Some girl slapped a boy across the face, raking him with her nails. Derogatory names were thrown left and right.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi balled up his fist, but continued to watch. "This is normal?"
Watari: "For a few months now, yeah..." Spectators cheered them on, as students attacked one another, the inent to kill lurking behind their actions and their eyes. "the lunch staff will step in in a couple more minutes."
Tatsumi: "Might be enough time for one of them to do real damage though." Tatsumi let his shadow step in, the darkness spliting into seterate 'pieces' and taking on the form of each student involved's shadow, forcing them to freeze in place. _________________

Watari: Watari visibly shivered at that, "Wh.. what was that!?" That seemed to be the general question, as frustrated students found themselves stuck in place.
Tatsumi: "Hm?" Tatsumi looked to the blond, still keeping the students in a tight hold. Maybe when he released them they would be too confused to feel like fighting....
Watari: "Nothing..." Watari mumbled, stacking his dirty dishes on his tray.
Tatsumi: Even though Tatsumi was sure it was his shadow that Watari was saying "nothing" to, he still didn't like that kind of response. "I need you to tell me when you sense something, Watari-kun."
Watari: "Sorry.... kind of a habit."
Tatsumi: He smiled. "We'll work on that."
Watari: "It's just..." He sighed, "It's so... unscientific."
Tatsumi: "What is?" Tatsumi asked, wanting more detail. He momentarily let the students go. See if they could behave.
Watari: They were bewildered.. and slunk away from each other, back to their separate groups--glaring warily at the other. "I mean.. a feeling. That doesn't.. doesn't mean anything. That's not fact..." But I feel it anyways. Usually, however, Watari kept his 'feelings' to himself.
Tatsumi: "I'm sure it means something." Tatsumi smiled at him from across the table. He saw the other was ready to go, but he still wanted to try and keep him there as long as possible.
Watari: "You're sure are you?" The student raised his brow skeptically.
Tatsumi: His expression did not falter. "I am." Maybe Watari needed someone else to tell him so.
Watari: "Well, that's your opinion..." Watari cleared his throat. "I'm sure it's just some sort of vestigal evolutionary instinct. Chemicals in the brain that cause us to percieve these... 'feelings' to which we attribute a definition." Or something like that.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi's shadow circled around Watari, under the chair. "That's an interesting view of it."
Watari: "A logical one at least." Watari shivered again. Gah! What.. was that!?
Tatsumi: His shadow almost reached up to touch Watari's leg, but Tatsumi willed it back to him. "Of course." So it might be slightly harder to get Watari to admit these things?
Watari: "If there's one thing a man can trust, it's logic."
Tatsumi: "The same logic that once claimed the world was flat?"
Watari: "And the same logic figured out that that was a mistaken belief."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi laughed lightly. He was trying to argue with a-- "How old are you, Watari-kun?"
Watari: "I'll be turning 21 this year."
Tatsumi: Wow, that old? Tatsumi would have guessed a couple of years younger. "It's not wise to put too much faith in logic. It makes finding out the truth harder to understand."
Watari: He considered that very seriously for a few moments. "I'll remember that sensei, thank you."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi stared at him blankly for a second. Really? No come back? "I don't think 'sensei' is necessary anymore," he smiled, trying not to focus on the fact that he felt proud for getting something through to the other.
Watari: "Then should I just call you Tatsumi-san?"
Tatsumi: "I would like you to, yes." Since you obviously know I don't belong or fit in here.
Watari: "Alright then Tatsumi-san. Thank you for buying me lunch." He stood up with a smile.
Tatsumi: Damn, he should have started asking Watari more questions. "No problem, I enjoyed the company." Now how do you tell a student you'd want to see them again? Dear lord. "I may seek you out again. I still have some questions."
Watari: Watari thought about it for half a moment, then he dug out a pen. "Okay. I'll give you my number. Call me tonight if you like." Please call so the line will be busy when mom tries. He got out a small section of paper from somewhere and scribbled it down.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi hadn't expected that. He felt very relieved and more confident now. (He had never even thought of asking for a number.) "Thank you, I appreciate it."
Watari: "No problem man. I have to get to chemistry now. See you around I guess." He put his books under his arms and took his tray to where the dirty dishes were collected, and then moved on out, exiting through the large double doors at the front of the cafeteria.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi took the number and placed it in his pocket, watching as Watari disappeared through the doors. When he thought he felt "it" move again, he thought it might be best to follow. Tatsumi moved to somewhere he could get a little privacy and went into spirit form. Then, went after Watari, following the boy to class. _________________

Watari: Watari was sitting in the back--asleep, or so it seemed anyways. The teacher shot him an annoyed glance, and made an announcement, "Since it seems our star pupil feels this material is beneath him, we shall be discussing some more advanced subjects today. If anyone gives him their notes, I will fail them. Don't worry. He'll be the only one tested on them come time for the next exam."
Tatsumi: What on earth was wrong with these teachers?! Seeing Watari asleep..... and since he was so sensitive, Tatsumi lightly "brushed" his hand over the blond's shoulder.
Watari: Watari twitched, smothering (if one could call it that) his gasp at that touch, still listening carefully to the teacher. Even though this was an advanced class, whatever the teacher was talking about was clearly making quite a few heads hurt.
Tatsumi: You're awake? Tatsumi thought, noticing the reaction. He couldn't understand why Watari was pretending to be asleep.... And... he didn't need to be here still! He felt nothing was wrong, so... He should leave. Tatsumi gave Watari one more look before he left.
Tsuzuki: Tsuzuki was waiting for him at the end of the hall, slightly out of breath. "There you are!!"
Tatsumi: "That's my line." Tatsumi growled.
Tsuzuki: "N-now before you get angry Tatsumi, it.. it's like this... There was this girl, see? And.. she had a lot of books, and.. and.. I thought she might be the one from our case file, so I thought I'd um, hang around with her and carry her textbook for her and um..."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi held his hands in front of him, like a shield. Once Tsuzuki started, it was difficult to get him to shut up. "The one from our case file is a he," he stated bluntly.
Tsuzuki: "Oh....R-right. I ... I see."
Tatsumi: "I met with him and talked with him." Tatsumi reached into his pocket. "I somehow even managed to get a number."
Tsuzuki: Tsuzuki's eyes widened. "You~!? You got a number? Ha! Jeeze! Even I didn't get a number Tatusmi. You dog you." He was grinning widely now, smirking at the other.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi's face was that of shock, annoyment, and embarrassment. "What are you talking about? These are students!"
Tsuzuki: Tsuzuki's grin was one of only slightly abashed sheepishness. "Yeah...well...."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi shifted his weight. "Anyway, he was very helpful. Watari Yutaka, sensitive to the super natural." A boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders and doesn't seem to realize... how unfair that is.
Tsuzuki: "What'd he look like? Was he cute?" Tsuzuki seemed stuck on teasing him.
Tatsumi: "E-excuse me?!" Not good, he had stuttered.... and while talking to Tsuzuki! The worst part being that Tatsumi was actually answering that question, though not aloud. He looked much better with his glasses off. "Tsuzuki...." It was a warning. And Tatsumi was giving him the look. A look which clearly said, "Cut the crap and focus."
Tsuzuki: "Okay, okay." Tsuzuki smiled a little, unafraid of his ex/temporary-partner for now. "So what do we know?"
Tatsumi: "We're not much better off then when we started." Tatsumi admited.
Tsuzuki: "So what should we do?"
Tatsumi: Why are you asking me? You're the one with the most experience.... Tatsumi sighed. "I think we should look around more..."
Tsuzuki: "Aww more work! Tatsumi, we've been at it all day, can't we go have lunch or something??"
Tatsumi: "I already had lunch, so go on without me. I'll look around more and meet with you in an hour." An hour was enough time for Tsuzuki, right?
Tsuzuki: "You could have waited for me!" Tsuzuki pouted.... then tilted his head at the other, as though thinking.
Tatsumi: "I had no other choice, sorry." Tatsumi apologized.
Tsuzuki: "You had lunch with that boy, didn't you?" Tsuzuki accused him, smugly.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi noticed this and crossed his arms. "I did. He had been on his way to lunch and I can't really ask questions while he's in class."
Tsuzuki: Tsuzuki was smiling inexplicably. "I think that's a good thing for you. You weren't all cold and bussiness-like were you though?"
Tatsumi: He gave Tsuzuki another look, this one saying, 'You're getting on my nerves now.' "Oh of course not. We talked about his classes, the logic of the world, and feelings," he said dryly.
Tsuzuki: Tsuzuki held up his hands in a sort of placating sheild, "H-hey! All I meant was that it's good for you too loosen up a bit with people. You.. kinda used to have a problem with it in the old days... and scaring our cases." Tatsumi had not been a 'people person' back then--of course, he still wasn't really.
Tatsumi: Compliment or insult, he didn't know. He did know he'd had just about enough of talking with Tsuzuki. Tatsumi didn't know why he was sensetive on this subject either. "Go eat, Tsuzuki." He tried to say with a smile. (A tired smile.)
Tsuzuki: "Fiiiiiine. I saw this great little bakery just around the corner of the campus on the way here, I think I'll go find that." Tsuzuki turned to leave, waving at his partner with a bright smile.
Tatsumi: Seeing that smile made Tatsumi feel more tired.... "See you in an hour." Tatsumi turned to leave in the opposite direction.
Tsuzuki: "Okaaay. I'll be in front of the library!"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was trying to remember just where in the hell the library was.... and how did Tsuzuki know where it was? (No offense to the brunette.) Tatsumi figured he would walk around more, ask a few questions, and walk around more. He needed to get familiar with the area.
Watari: There was a slight commotion in a classroom, muffled noises...
Tatsumi: No one in the hall, Tatsumi walked through the wall to enter the classroom, entering in as a spirit.
Watari: Apparently Yutaka's little charade had been found out, and the teacher was... angry. Everything was happening so fast. The boy was quiet, bearing the verbal abuse with a bowed head as he packed his back in a hurry. (And it looked like that teacher had given him a new bruise or two.) Not satisfied with seeing the student leave on his own two feet, the professor yanked on the back of the boy's collar and half-dragged/half-ejected Watari out of his classroom. The other students were about as unruly. It was like a zoo. When the teacher turned back, he tried to establish order by cracking a yardstick on the counter. (It snapped in half.) All this in a space of time under 45 seconds. _________________

Tatsumi: Tatsumi had been frozen in place, not only with the scene, but with the sickening feeling he had as soon as he'd entered. It was too late by the time he'd recognized Watari. Tatsumi had reached out, for some reason, to try and break the hold the professor had on the boy's collar. Not that it mattered, but Tatsumi had missed, and his hand ran along Watari's arm. (Or through) When the blond had been ejected from the class, instead of following after, Tatsumi tried to search the room and ignore the noisy professor as best he could. When it got to the point to where he couldn't stomach the "feel" of the room anymore, he left.... becoming physical again around the corner.
Watari: His head was.. swimming.. and he felt so cold his arm did right now. What.. on earth had just happened...? He shook his head, which ached, and stood carefully. He stared at the door, utterly bewildered for a moment, then he turned his head as another 'odd' feeling struck him.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi walked around the corner, coming into view and "noticed" Watari. (Obviously he was going to check on him... but he had to do so by accident.)
Watari: "Ah, Tatsumi-san... h-hello again." He was still staring behind Tatsumi...feeling.... something. (Something else besides the 'aura' of the Shinigami.) It was softer..more like a vapor, something easily dismissed by the mind as insignificant.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi followed Watari's gaze behind him for a moment before he turned back around. (And more on guard.) He skipped the greeting and went right to, "What's wrong?"
Watari: "....Nothing." He said at last, as the sensation went away. "Just... um.. I think I got thrown out of class."
Tatsumi: You think?? Tatsumi's eyes finally caught sight of a new bruise on the blond's face. "Another fight break out?" What did you feel?
Watari: "W-well um... I was sitting there... listening... with my eyes closed," he started, by way of explination, looking a little embarrased.
Tatsumi: "Listening, hm?" Tatsumi managed to smile. "Go on."
Watari: "W-well, the only way to get my teachers to go over more challenging course material sometimes is to bait them. Oh. Right." He pulled out a notebook and a pen and rapidly started scribbling down notes as he talked. "I wasn't sleeping though."
Tatsumi: "But you were caught listening?"
Watari: "Um, yes."
Tatsumi: "And he saw fit to strike you for that?" Tatsumi said, eyeing the bruise once again.
Watari: "Well, he was upset that I was disrespecting his intelligence and authority as a teacher." He rubbed at the mark, "But.. yes. Um, he did. He's usually not so.... explosive."
Tatsumi: "Feel anything strange... again?"
Watari: "That's what 'woke' me up and got me caught."
Tatsumi: What were they up against? Whatever it was, they needed to get on it quicker... And as much as he would've loved to go drag Tsuzuki away from lunch, Tatsumi wanted to take care of something else first. "Where are you off to now, Watari-kun?"
Watari: "Nowhere for awhile. My next class isn't until four."
Tatsumi: "Why don't you go get some sleep? For real this time." It was a suggestion, but sounded more like an order... which he didn't mean... (Habit? Damn Tsuzuki.)
Watari: The kid smiled, "I'm okay. I can study or something instead."
Tatsumi: "Determined to not let the day go to waste, aren't you?"
Watari: "I dunno about 'determined' so much as 'I have to.'"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi frowned a little at that, thinking back to their earlier conversation. "Well," Tatsumi started, straightening, "I won't keep you." He smiled.
Watari: Watari gave a small smile however, "But... since I've memorized half my books anyways, I don't see why I can't show you around a little more."
Tatsumi: "I would appreciate that very much, thank you." He chuckled, realizing he was(in a way) killing two birds with one stone. "Would you mind meeting me outside the building, though? I haven't taken care of business here, yet." He continued to smile politely.
Watari: "Alright, sure." Watari gave him one last grin, before dissapearing down the stairs.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi calmly walked over the classroom Watari had been kicked out of and knocked on the door.
Watari: The teacher opened it after a moment, order tentatively restored for the moment. He stared at the other adult for a moment before, "Yes? May I help you?"
Tatsumi: "Yes." Tatsumi's placed smile never fell as he pulled his fist back, and using his legs for an extra boost, pushed forward with all his might, punching the man across the face. "Please refrain from striking your students." Tatsumi thought of it as the professor getting what was coming to him... thinking he had helped, when he might've only been making things worse.
Watari: The man reeled back, and the students were equal parts astonished and delighted. The professor was kneeling on the ground, holding a bleeding (and quite possibly broken) nose.
Tatsumi: "I'll come visit you again if you choose to ignore my advice." Tatsumi warned as he smiled and waved, leaving. (He may have possibly transported down the stairs to get outside quicker.) He opened the door to exit the building, stepping out to meet Watari.
Watari: The kid looked up, and shut one of his books with a smile. "Ready?"
Tatsumi: He nodded, placing his hands in his pockets, prepared for a long walk. (Or tour....)
Watari: "Okay so this is... the ah..." He squinted, pushing his frames, "Um... Jyushu Hall. Um.. Over there is the science complex and the greenhouse." I think...
Tatsumi: "Please go into detail if we come across an area that feels strange... or where fights tend to break out more often."
Watari: "Sure thing... um... investigator?"
Tatsumi: Tatsumi smiled. That'll work... "Right."
Watari: "Um.... This way please..." And Watari started to make his way across campus.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi walked by his side. It was much easier to remember the buildings when someone was giving you a name for them.
Watari: Watari would also give a class or two he had for the buildings he took classes in, and the day those classes were on.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was making a mental note of this, too.
Watari: "And that's where I have my Western Literature class today at four... And that's the reflection pond I mentioned earlier.. The building it reflects is the administration building, and that's also where the president of the college lives. The student union is where we had lunch.."
Tatsumi: The more they walked on, the more sick Tatsumi began to feel. Like earlier in the classroom. (Was this thing really after Watari? Or there was always the possibility that it was following him, the Shinigami.) He had to wonder if Watari felt it, too.
Watari: "And waaaay over there is the dorm where I live, you can just see it. I'm on the fifth floor. No air conditioning and testy heating at best.."
Tatsumi: "Sounds luxurious..." Tatsumi commented dryly as he looked in the direction of the dorms. "Have there been any accidents since you've been here, Watari-kun?"
Watari: Watari thought about it for a moment, coming to a halt. ".....Somebody broke his leg falling off the balcony at the library. And apparently the kilns for the pottery classes aren't working right. They can't fix the problem."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi smiled weakly and nodded his thanks for the information. And then, "The library has a balcony??"
Watari: "It has two floors, and all the second floor really has is a railing to keep people from falling down."
Tatsumi: Well, he was getting the chance to know more about the area, but other than that, he was going no where. Just because he didn't know where to start. "What about inside your dorm? Do you feel anything odd there?"
Watari: "Sometimes.." Watari admitted. "Across from it on the other side, about half a block further is the art gallery.. and the Concert Hall Theatre."
Tatsumi: "Mind showing me where exactly?" Tatsumi asked, showing some interest in the other's words.
Watari: "Sure. Can I drop some of my books off first? It will only take a few minutes."
Tatsumi: "Of course." That would give him the chance to see where exactly Watari stayed. _________________

Watari: Watari fished around awkwardly in one of his pockets for his keys. Finding them, he wrapped his fingers around them and readjusted his books. He cut across the lawn, heading for the dorm.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi followed, fighting over whether or not he should offer to help Watari with his books.
Watari: Watari managed though, he moved his books slightly on one hip so that he could better unlock the door, pulling on it and awkwardly holding it open for Tatsumi.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was going to suggest that he just wait outside, but his feet were already walking him inside the dorm building.
Watari: Watari shuffled in after him and manuevered around the man so that he could start up the stairs. "Here we go.."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi headed up the stairs after him, hoping Watari didn't fall. The boy he could catch, those books, not so sure.
Watari: At long last they reached the top of the narrow, winding stairs. (There were three floors above them after that.) Watari opened another door that lead to a long (again narrow) hallway and many doors. "I'm 516."
Tatsumi: Again, Tatsumi could see why Watari was a good swimmer. Tatsumi's leg muscles were only burning slightly. "516." he repeated, storing that info away as well.
Watari: Watari flicked out a different key and shoved it in the lock, twisting the knob and shoving the door with his shoulder. "Here it is. Home sweet home." He dumped his books on the bottom bunk. Watari was allowed a single, given his work load, unlike most students still living on campus. It was small, even when only one occupant was living in it, much less two. All in all, pretty standard level housing for a college student--i.e. bordering on poverty.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi still hadn't stepped in completely. He was looking around, which didn't take long, and was realizing why Watari probably wasn't getting enough sleep. Not wanting to be rude, he stepped(two steps, actually) inside.
Watari: Right across from the bunkbed was a desk, that took up a good share of the room, and a closet on the other side, next to the window. The desk was covered in notebooks and files and all sorts of outlines and diagrams. He had a few posters tacked up to his wall. One was a list of all current Nobel Prize winners, a periodic table chart, some... band poster with a name written in English. ('The Who') There was also a small doodle on a post-it stuck to a wall. A hurried sketch.. er.. doodle. (It was supposed to represent a fish in a goldfish bowl..)
Tatsumi: Was he supposed to say something about the room? 'Cozy'......? And what on earth is that on the floor?? Tatsumi glanced at the walls and for some reason felt relieved to see some sort of band poster... Seeing the small doodle, because that's what it had to be, he walked further in to look at it.
Watari: "I don't have time for a real fish," Watari explained, fiddling with papers on the desk. "Of course it'd probably die anyways, under my care. Fish are so sensitive it's not even funny. I swear, if you look at a goldfish wrong, it will die." He sidled past the other man, the space narrow enough that his body brushed against Tatsumi's as he passed.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi tried to move and give the boy more room. "Well, you would just need a pet that doesn't need much care then. Like... a Beta fish."
Watari: "It would still die," Watari said confidently.
Tatsumi: "Why do you say that?"
Watari: "Because I'd get wrapped up in my work and then forget to feed it before running off to a class."
Tatsumi: "With that type of fish, it could go days without getting fed, but still..." It might be good for you.
Watari: "It would be dead within the week." Watari said firmly.
Tatsumi: "You're right. Pets die if you don't make time to feed them." Tatsumi said just as firmly.
Watari: "People are much the same way," Yutaka mentioned without really thinking.
Tatsumi: "What do you mean by that?" he asked, voice coming out more smoothly.
Watari: "Hm?" He smiled, as though he were a simple fool. Somehow he got the impression the other wouldn't like his eating habits... But.. why did he care what this man... stranger... thought anyways?
Tatsumi: Tatsumi stepped closer. "You said people are the same way.... Please explain."
Watari: There wasn't enough space to back up properly. "Well, just that.. If one doesn't make time to feed oneself, the results are the same."
Tatsumi: You meant something else, more, by it. Tatsumi was, in a way, staring Watari down. (Though not harshly.) "Do you remember to feed yourself, Watari-kun? Remember to make time to take care of yourself?" And now he was speaking out of place.
Watari: "Y-es. Always!" But it was a tad strained, a little too forced, to be true.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi could tell it was forced, but he didn't frown. Instead he smiled. "Alright then, I believe you."
Watari: Watari gave a sort of nervous smile, "Uh, are we ready to go?"
Tatsumi: He nodded. "Ready."
Watari: "Uh, the art gallery, right?" Watari just wanted to be sure, he had a tendency to be a little absentminded.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was the first to step out. "Correct. As long as you don't mind."
Watari: "No, not at all. Just being sure."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was glancing around the hall, no reason really, and then he turned slightly pale. They would have to go down those steps again.....
Watari: Watari stepped out and locked the door behind him. "Okay. Back down we go. It's a lot easier going down."
Tatsumi: "Oh is it?" he breathed out a nervous laugh.
Watari: "Yeah. Gravity's helping you then."
Tatsumi: So.... if he were to jump, then.... Tatsumi began walking back down the hall towards those damned stairs.
Watari: And Watari lead the way, not even slightly winded by any of this activity. At least it was a fairly nice day. Once again he held the door for the other man, before going around the corner of the dorm building towards the arts center.
Tatsumi: Tatsumi was doing a fine job of keeping up the calm and collected look considering he wanted to do nothing but sit down somewhere. He managed to keep up with Watari, walking by the blonde's side as they got closer to the arts center. _________________

Watari: "I'm actually taking an art class. It's more work than I thought it would be. Mom doesn't know of course. She's convinced it's a waste of time and effort." And money.
Tatsumi: He smiled. "And why did you take it?"
Watari: "I guess some of it was just to be rebellious... but.. I dunno... I guess I'm okay at it."
Tatsumi: "You don't enjoy it?"
Watari: "I do. It's just... different."
Tatsumi: The farther they walked, the more stiff Tatsumi became. He forced the conversation along. "Different how?" Because you enjoy it?
Watari: "It's less.... structured in a way I guess. There's really no... right answer."
Tatsumi: Tatsumi saw what must have been the arts center building come into view. This boy... does a lot of walking through out the day...
Watari: "So what exactly are you investigating Tatsumi-san?"
Tatsumi: Chuckling, "How confident will it sound if I say I'm not sure yet?"
Watari: Watari gave him a wry grin, "It sounds a lot better if you just say it's confidential and to keep my civilian nose out of official bussiness."
Tatsumi: Looking ahead and very bussiness-like Tatsumi tried it out, "It's confidential, Watari-kun, and you should keep your civillian nose out of it."
Watari: Watari managed to keep a straight face.... for all of three seconds. Then the laughter he was witholding broke free. "Phh...phwaahahahaha~!"
Tatsumi: "And you laugh." Tatsumi commented with little feeling, looking back at Watari.
Watari: "Sorry... just... I didn't really expect you to say it."
Tatsumi: "I was just testing how it sounded." (And maybe trying to get a smile from the other.) Plus, he might actually have to say that later, who knew.
Watari: "You did it well," Watari said with a smile. "Very cold and authoritative."
Tatsumi: "And it struck you as amusing." he pointed out, smiling slightly.
Watari: "I'm crazy, remember? I find lots of things amusing," this was said in good humor.
Tatsumi: Actually no, he didn't remember. He could barely recall it....
Watari: "Here we are..." Watari said, as they drew closer to the building. "The Rienike Art Center."
Tatsumi: Please have a bench inside. Tatsumi thought as he glanced at the structure of the building before heading towards the door.
Watari: Watari gestured with a hand to the expansive halls. "Well... here it is. The studios and classrooms are in the back, and in there is an auditorium."
Tatsumi: "I'd like to see the auditorium." Tatsumi remembered that coming up in their conversation earlier...
Watari: "Sure thing. It's usually open." Watari went forward to go test his theory. Huzzah! They were!
Tatsumi: Tatsumi, as he had been doing most of the day, followed Watari, putting his senses on alert.
Watari: The theatre was empty, but there was a collection of lumber and the like onstage. Apparently they were preparing for a production it looked like.
Tatsumi: He walked past Watari to go look around on his own, setting his shadow loose in the theatre to aid in the search as well.
Watari: Watari leaned on the back of a seat, more perched than sitting, and watched the other man from his vantage point. (Again shivering at that... sensation.)
Tatsumi: There was something in the back... but he would have to go to it... instead of have his shadow bring it to him. He began walking down the aisle of seats.
Watari: Watari shuddered again. He looked at the man's destination, confirming his instinct. He righted his balance and started to trot towards the other, "Ah--Tatsumi-san.. w-wait a moment... I don't... think you want to go back there.."
