Hijiri was looking forward to meeting his "partner" as he kept putting it. The demonhunters of Meifu continued to try to tell him that he was beig trained, but he was still stuck on having a partner. Who would it be? Would they get along well with them? Would they think he was just annoying?

He'd come to meifu not too long ago, having died in a freak accident and been unwilling to let go of life. He'd had some dealings with demons in his life, and the experience had left him with some odd abilities. Thus, he was sent to the demon hunters rather than the judgement bureau like he'd hoped. There didn't seem to be offices, but rather it was a building for training the mind and body to fight off such beasts. The person leading him was one he'd met only the day before. This would apparently be his boss, though he was unused to taking orders from someone so young. It was a young man who looked about the age of thirteen, but was obviously much older than that, judging by his constant facial expression and the way that he spoke.

"Your trainer," there was emphasis on the word 'trainer', "is right through this door." He led the boy into a place where magical abilities were tested and trained, finding there to be only one person there. Was it a boy or s girl? He couldn't tell at first. "Kira," said his new boss, "your new student is here."

"A couple extra hundred, that's all I'm asking," Kira muttered. "I was FINE with my work solo, but I get saddled with a partner. I don't need a partner. Not for another two centuries, I swear."

Meifu had been home from the moment she was literally pulled from the flames of Hell, and put to work in the Demon-Hunting Department. For a woman of her age, she'd piled up an impressive list of demons she'd hunted. Relentless and reckless, Kira found the idea of having a partner even more repulsive than having to execute an entire group of unchained flesh-eating demons.

In fact, she'd much rather do that, than face her nameless partner. And having to 'get used' to him. Or her.

"...right through this door." Ah, that'd be the new victim, now. Was her partner a he? She? Did he- or she- have any particular abilities? Shiki? A fuda expert? A newb with absolutely no skill at all? A dragon?

Every new member who worked in the Department needed their skills and abilities tested, usually by their new 'partner'. Kira wasn't looking forward to this particular event, as she didn't know her new partner's skills and abilities yet.

She sighed, and stretched out, beginning to limber up as the door slid away, revealing a young man behind it, led by her boss.

"..." Well, he looked normal enough. Black hair, average height, average colored skin- there was something funny about his eyes- and he carried himself with youthful, easy grace.

He was normal.

"...Nice to meet you," she managed out.

"Ths is Tsukiori-san," her boss grinned. "Kira has been with the Department since she's been in Meifu, and she's not had a partner yet- she's been working solo for a long time!"

"Until now," she muttered, glaring at her boss. Kira stuck out her hand. "I'm Kira."

Hijiri took the offered hand and shook it, offering a kind smile. "Minase Hijiri," he said, "nice to meet you." The voice and name said that this person was femle, however a very strong one. Hijiri felt a bit overwhelmed by her, but tried not to let it show. He would certainly do his best not to let her down. Looking her over, though trying to be unnoticed in the process, he found that she would likely be able to dress up very feminine and look very beautiful, but her toughness and masculine demenor wouldn't allow it. Her hair was past her shoulders in the front, but very short in the back, piercing in their sunburst storm. He continued to fight the urge to cower away from her. The man beside him seemed uninterested in their studying eachother.

"Kira," he said, "it seems that he's met up with one of the demons you've met up with... and he lived to tell about it. Though... he never did." The man gave Hijiri a look and he let go of Kira's hand, shaking his head to silently say that he hadn't told a soul. The man looked back at Kira.

"He can see demons better than any demon hunter I've ever seen before," he said, "seems his left cornea was touched by a demon named Sagatanasu, who I'm sure you've heard of."

Hijiri Minase- even his name sounded normal. He had the kind of delicate features that defined his face, oddly reminiscent of Kurosaki at the Judgement Bureau. I Minase-kun had blonde hair, he'd look exactly like Kurosaki-kun, Kira was sure of it.

"...his left cornea was touched by a demon named Saagatanasu." Kira's head shot up, and her mind was already processing the name. Saagatanasu was the demon who had tried to destroy Meifu's Judgement Bureau building, wasn't he? Saagatanasu...

Oh.

"Glasya-Labolas," Kira nodded. "The Dragon King in charge of thirty-six legions." She'd been involved directly in the case in which several different demons had tried to usurp the newly-dead Saagatanasu's position. It had, she recalled, ended with Tsuzuki's judgement pending, as Ashtoreth had truly emphasized on the shinigami's powers, and his potential as King of the Dragon Demons.

"You fought him, and lived..." It wasn't much of a question, but more of a statement, to voice it in the air to make it true.

His left cornea... Ah. The 'something different' in his eyes- yes, there was something that separated the left eye from the right. Keener, perhaps.

"I will enjoy working with you," Kira smiled- and found that she was actually looking forward to testing his abilities. After all, there isn't much to go wrong with, when he sighted the demons and she blasted them, right?

Hijiri felt some relief that she was no longer glowering at him with hackles raised like a rabid wolf. She certainly had an intense gaze. He couldn't help but wonder if she too was comparing him to Hisoka.

"I will enjoy working with you," she said. That made Hijiri feel much better. If she truly did enjoy his company, perhapse that meant he would learn more than he would have if she hated him. The man who was heir boss crossed his arms and nodded.

"A list is being made out for his current abilities and his latent abilities," the man said, "as soon as it is finished, you will recieve it." He looked around. "For now, you'll just want to teach him the basics of demonhunting, like what to watch out for when a demon is near... or you could try not to kill him, as you nearly did the last person who was attemptedly paired up with you." Hijiri visually cringed at this. She'd never had a partner before... was that why? He tried to hide the cringe so she wouldn't see weakness. He had the feeling that she could crush him beneath her thumb if she wanted to.

Certainly, Kira could practially crush him under her thumb. Grinning, she thought of her last partner- he hadn't made much of a 'partner', so he didn't really count. Terrified at the sight of what her vials of holy water could do, he couldn't stomach the sight of demons, either.

"I'll have the list as soon as you're done with it, then?" An eyebrow quirked, as Kira remembered how the Department's secretary had once left several important file buried on his desk for a week.

"Of course," he retorted. He'd seemed to catch onto the her subtle jibe. "Not my fault our secretary is overworked." And with that, her boss had left.

..really, more like he flounced out. Kira smiled at his dramatic exit, and turned to face Hijiri.

"So, what do you know already about demon hunting?"

"Not as much as I wish I knew," he said, "the last time, I just knew that I couldn't give in to what he tried to tempt me with. Damn those things are cunning. Though.... Saga's one of the worse ones, from what I've heard. But I know that I should definitly not get bitten, that wasn't good. Take away all of his advantages and utilise all of your own... though... that's a given...." he thought about this more. "Well, I guess I won't really know where to start until you tell me." He smiled apologetically. He was sure that she wouldn't like having a student who was so ignorant to the job. But he could guarentee that he would try his very hardest.  "I'm a near fresh canvas."

"Better than my last student," Kira quipped. "What you NEED to know is that demons prey on fear. The bastards have an innate sense of knowing that you're scared of them- if that's true, then you're already dead." She grinned evilly at Hijiri.

"That's why you can study certain methods of demon hunting- myself, I use this." Pulling out her emergency vial of holy water from her pocket, Kira popped the cork to the tiny bottle. "This is the most potent holy water in Meifu- a splash of this, minor demons are vanquished and the bigger guys get hurt. Big time." Uncorking it allowed the water to give off a fresh scent in the room, like a breath of air from heaven. Re-corking it, she stowed the bottle back in her pocket.

"You can use a variety of things to finish off demons, in a variety of ways." Kira pointed to a far wall in the room, with a display of items used for demon hunting. "A ritual sword can be used for exorcisms, if you're trained in onmyojitsu. It can be used for Wiccan purposes, if you've studied that, or a conduit for channeling spirits." Kira paused, allowing the information to sink in. "So basically, you choose the way to finish off demons that suits you best, and just go with it. Capiche?"

Hijiri nodded, absorbing it like a sponge. The fresh holy water cleared his mind and he was able to think better. Kira certainly knew what she was talking about, and he was pleased, he tried to draw back what he knew from his encounter and from some research after it. "Wiccan?" he said, "does that mean you've studied black magic too?" He shook his head, "wait.... that's dumb of me... you probably have to when dealing with demons."

Kira laughed. "Wiccan isn't really evil- black magic is a separate portion of magic all on it's own. People who practice the Wiccan faith are really about the earth and herbs. I use some bits and pieces I know of it to deal with certain exorcisms- basically, some demons don't like being burned out." Again, she smiled that evil grin at Hijiri.

"But yeah- demons have their own brand of magic, by the way. They vary, too, so studying different types of magic is a good thing. Catholicism is good for most demons, but a good Japanese exorcist is handy to have around," Kira nodded. "Dabbling in the occult can be okay, as long as it doesn't reach the boundaries of black magic- a lot of people in Meifu take up tarot reading, but there's only a few who are truly talented; those people work at the Judgement Bureau, or here." Kira paused again, to allow more information to sink in.

"Spells can be nifty, but with every spell and item you use, there will be backlash. If you use fuda scrolls too often, the backlash will accumulate- and I've heard of cases where mortals use magic too often, and they die." Kira's face became serious, and she continued.

"Serious cases of backlash can really hurt you, even if you're already dead. Shinigami at the Judgement Bureau have certain spells put on their bodies that don't allow themselves to be extensively injured- that goes for backlash, too. However, we at the Department don't have that advantage, so there's really several options you can do to avoid it. With me so far?"
