Devil's Trill Arc

I bet everybody knew I was going to post this one, right? Oh well.

I like this arc because when you read it, there's still the sense of newness to the book, but you already know the main characters. I adore Hijiri and like trying to imagine Hisoka's reaction to seeing someone who looks almost exactily like himself. The fight with Sagatanasu, trying to keep Hijiri alive, is a very important part if the storyline.......

I'm sorry, I've list my train of thought. Please tell me what you think of it too^^

Darnit I wanted to post this one! D<

Ah but yes, my favorite, favorite arc. Always has been. (Like before I suddenly became a raving Watari fangirl. Before I was a Soka fangirl though not quite as.. crazy. Then again I didn't have others of my kind to rant to XDD)

Seriously it is, for me, The best. arc. ever. I was gonna do my gaia profile based off of it but I suck at that sort of thing TT_TT

But I do have this still Very Happy
(ZOMG IT SUCKS SO BAD!! I'm sooo much better at graphics now!)

The text is, my take on an 'entry' from Tartini's diary xD

In case you can't read it it says:
It came to me in a dream, the song. I dreamt I made a deal with the devil, my soul in exchange for a symphony. When I awoke the next morning, I wrote and wrote as if possssed by something that was beyond myself. I could not stop writing. I neither ate nor slept till it was finished. It was the most beautiful piece I had ever written, and vastly more complex than my other works. I wonder.. I wonder now if it was a dream at all. I wonder, did I really sell my soul for a piece of music?
Jani_chan

hai hai^^

yes!! Thank yous for that!! I'm so thankful!!

And I'm glad that I'm not the only one who loves this arc^^

When first watching YnM, it was the arc I took to the most. The devils Trill rules so much.

Manga: My bookstore seemed to never have the first volume to this series(YnM) and always the second and after... I finally got fed up with it and bought the second one. So, the Devil's Trill was my first ever intro into the series. Sadly, it's not my fav. I enjoyed it very much, but that volume wasn't enough to make me fall in love with the series. (Book 3 did that actually.) I was sad to see the character Hijiri go, since that volume had made him such a big character... Kinda... WTH?

Anime: Sorry! Can't watch it in english. XD That demon "snarls" too much and it just gets on my bloody nerves, just like Watari's voice. X3 So, I can only enjoy this arc in Japanese. (Plus, that demon sounds way more scarey in that version.)

The first time I watched the Devil's Trill arc I admit that I wasn't too impressed by it. I eventully began to appreciate it more and more as time passes. I like the idea of Tsuzuki becoming possessed because there's so much potential storyline to it and what I would have liked to see was the affect it had on Tsuzuki's and Hisoka's relationship. We didn't get to see that and I was disappointed by that. What I do like about this arc was the introduction of Hijiri. He's such a cutie (of course he is, he looks like Hisoka!). I liked how in the manga Tsuzuki was implying to Hijiri that Hisoka was in love with him (Tsuzuki) and that gave Hijiri quite a shock. I wish they had that in the anime.
Jani_chan

XD that was hilarious. (the implication of love between Tsu and Soka). I'm still trying to figure out where the frog came from that Hisoka threw at Tsuzuki.
laustic

I want to know where the frog came from too. It was a rather amusing scene, wasn't it?
Jani_chan

it waaasss XDDDDD Hijiri's face xDDDDD I also like the scene where they're walking over the dock and Hijiri's looking through the book and Hisoka's all *glooom* and Kazusa's asleep on Hisoka's back. I'm surprised he didn't throw her off. You know how he is with physical contact. but he really didn't seem to mind. I'm quite sure that he liked her. Kawaii <3
laustic

That was a cute scene. Hijiri is such a tourist (just like me)! I thought it was cute how Hisoka had Kazusa on his back. I have a feeling that he likes kids (and probably animals too!).
sapphiredragon

He would probably be fine with children because they're still so innocent and have those cute innocent emotions.

Maybe it's even soothing for Hisoka to sense the emotions of a child?
Jani_chan

never thought about that. Considering his past, he might find them relaxing. Due to his past I imagine he didn't have innocent emotions for long. Too many things going on around him that forced him to grow up. So yes :p I think he likes Kazusa <3
laustic

I have to agree with the above posts. Childrens' emotions tend to be more innocent and that would explain why he can handle being around them, well at least Kazsusa.
Jani_chan

Was is just me or did he not mind Hijiri all that much either? It seemed that he just got tired because Hijiri was really energetic XD "Where does he get his energy?" XD
laustic

I think Hisoka was pretty fond of Hijiri as well. It irks me when I read in fanfic where Hisoka made it clear that he doesn't like Hijiri. There's nothing in the manga or anime to suggest that Hisoka harbored any dislike for Hijiri. When they were sightseeing, Hisoka was amazed that Hijiri had the energy to keep going and it no way was he resentful of him.
sapphiredragon

This arc really has very little do to with Hisoka; it's more meant to develop Tsuzuki's character and make us curious about his past. I think there was only like one thing developed about Hisoka in this arc, and it was kind of the start of showing how Hisoka wanted to get stronger than or at least as strong as Tsuzuki.

I guess I'm trying to say that this arc is pretty Tsuzuki-centric and Hisoka's kind of just there. I dunno, I think I may have totally gone off from whatever I wanted to say...
Jani_chan

true. But still, one of the people it focuses on looks just like him, how could we not bring him up? :p And of course Hiji-kun's my favorite character. Soooo.... question... since it was Hisoka who was chopped up by Tsuzuki, why did his eye still have the slitted pupil? I remember that's how it was in the show (can't remember the book for the life of me at the moment).
laustic

The fact that Hijiri looks like Hisoka I think implies that Hisoka does have an important role in this arc. Tsuzuki rather flirtious with Hijiri and I think that has alot to do with the fact that Hijiri looks like Hisoka (although Tsuzuki does truly care about Hijiri). I guess what I'm saying is that I just don't agree that Hisoka was "just there."
pyro_o

Well, about the child emotions things.

Anybody remember a particularly childish book, sth like 'Sideways School'? One of the stories is about a teacher, who has a hidden ear in the middle of her forehead. She uses it to read people's emotions, and maniuplates her 'gift'. She's turned very bitter, bcz her boyfriend (soon to be husband, I thought) scorns her after finding out that she wasn't normal. (sound familiar?)

(..well. Minus the 'boyfriend' part. We all know Hisoka's probable revulsion at the idea of marrying a girl, courtesy of Saya and Yuma. XD)

So she gets the job at Sideways School (or sth like that name. it's been a while. 8D;Wink, and then, she decides to listen to the heart of a baby.

The sweet innocence of that child melted the ... crustiness... (ew) away from her heart, and she was all .. reformed.

I totally support that argument. (even if it is reinforced by my own saying so. XD)

And...

About the Devil's Trill?

I like to think of it as a particular 'what if' arc. There's so much to mess with, but there's also so much to think about. Hijiri-Tsuzuki-Hisoka isn't on of my favorite love triangles, to be sure. I can totally agree that Hisoka didn't HATE Hijiri. But, it's also true that Hisoka wasn't really a main character in this arc.

He wasn't quite just 'there', though. If I put myself in Tsuzuki's suicidal, caring, and totally undead shoes, I think that I'd have a hell of a time trying to kill somebody who looks like my partner (who I'd secretly wanna either punch, for being so bratty, or kiss, for being so freakishly cute and lovable, if he's not being a brat).

Then again, he WAS being posessed. Hm.

But I think that Hijiri looking like Hisoka does play an important part- when Hijiri let Tsuzuki 'loose' from his mental prison (goodness, that makes him sound something along the lines of a psycho..), my little TsuSoka-loving inner fangirl would like to think that Tsuzuki thought it was Hisoka who was helping him.

The looks definitely help, somewhat. XD
laustic

Good post pyro_o. In response to the last paragraph I have to say that I feel the same way. In the manga, Sagatanasu said to Tsuzuki "How does it feel to have just killed your partner." That must have torn Tsuzuki up, but I found it odd that was never address. We all know that Hisoka doesn't hold Tsuzuki responsible for that, but how did Tsuzuki react to it?
Jani_chan

Tsu prolly didn't react to well. Knowing him, that's prolly one of the many things eating at him when he goes all suicidal later in the series and stabs his eye out. He's the kind of person who would probably hold onto something like that for a long time. And of course, the death of Mitani probably didn't help.... but that's a different arc.

The death of Mitani really devasted Tsuzuki, I think a part of it has to do with the fact that Tsuzuki understood his feelings.
Jani_chan

yesyes. It always hurts more when you know the feeling and can't do anything.

Question

Do you think Kazusa was sent on or do you think that she was kept around for her ability?
laustic

She was just a child so I think she probably was sent on after her death. But who knows, she does have a valuble gift so the higher ups might have wanted to keep her around.
Jani_chan

I wondered about that because I thought I heard them say that they would be able to use her gift. no idea.. can't remember ^^;;
laustic

They probably could use her power. I also would have to reread the arc and see what it said.
