(Nc17) The Demon Within (Hijiri/Hisoka trillogy2) complete

a/n: XD yes i made up a vibrator, don't kill me. also, the condom shop Hisoka is talking about, i've actually seen it on tv. if it's not in tokyo forgive my horrendous memory.

The Demon Within
~~~
Hisoka gave a heavy sigh as the alarm rang early that Monday morning. Hijiri’s tired voice drifted to his ears from under the thick comforter.
“Two months went by too fast.”
Hisoka sat up and streached.
“But it was a good time spent. This may sound crazy but I kind of miss paperwork.”
Hijiri turned the alarm off and sat up as well.
“it’s not the paperwork I’m worried about. How can I trust him?”
Hisoka sighed and leaned into Hijiri’s arms.
“Konoe is normal again. He wasn’t working with the demon inside him. Tsuzuki on the other hand…”
Hijiri growled at the mere mention of the name.
“Don’t worry. If he comes near you for more than work related reasons I’ll kick his ass.”
Hisoka snuggled close.
“We’ll have lunch together every day. Then I won’t have to be alone with him.”
Hijiri leaned down and kissed him softly.
“That sounds like a good plan.”
He paused as he glanced at the clock.
“I never did get a shower last night. Wanna take one together?”
Hisoka blinked up at him for a moment but then nodded.
“We don’t have time to play around though.”
Hijiri grinned.
“Nope. No playing around this morning.”
Hisoka ran his fingers through his tousled hair with a yawn.
“We stayed up too late last night. Can’t do that tonight okay?”
Hijiri pouted but agreed all the same.
“Come on sleepy head, let’s go wash up before we head out.”
Hisoka nodded and dragged himself out of bed.
Hijiri followed the blond into the bathroom.
Hisoka stopped for a moment as he turned back to the bedroom window.
“Did you hear something?”
Hijiri shook his head, turning to look at the window as well.
“No. What did you hear?”
Hisoka sighed and shook his head.
“Must’ve been an animal or something.”
He closed the door and stepped into the shower before turning it on.
He shivered as the water took a moment to heat.
When it was right he reached out to Hijiri.
“Hold me for a few minutes.”
Hijiri smiled warmly.
“No arguments here Ai.”
He kissed the blond softly as he stepped in and wrapped his arms around the smaller frame.
“I love you Hisoka.”
Hisoka smiled and rested his head on Hijiri’s chest.
He loved waking up to hear that.
“I love you too.”
~~~~

  After their shower the two dressed and walked to work.

Hisoka reluctantly said goodbye to his lover and walked into he and Tsuzuki’s office.

As was expected the brunet was late.

He sat down to find three case reports half finished and decided to get to work.

He was sure Tatsumi would be happy to have him back.

There was likely a mountain of similarly unfinished papers in the secretary’s office.

He didn’t hear the door close behind him as he was concentrating too hard on the paperwork.

It wasn’t until he felt a strong hand on his shoulder that he looked up. He didn’t have to turn to know who it was and he brushed the fingers off.

“Please don’t do that again. You know how I am about being touched.”

Tsuzuki walked around to his own side of the desk, fingers sliding across the edge.

He didn’t speak until he sat down and stared the blond in the eyes.

“Welcome back.”

There was no kindness to the voice and Hisoka bristled.

“If I was welcomed I’d say thank you.”

Tsuzuki smiled.

“You’re welcomed Hisoka…just not Hijiri. That’s all.”

Hisoka looked away.

“Well you’re not working with Hijiri and if you were happy to see me than why the tone?”

Tsuzuki frowned.

“I’m hurt that you went through with testifying against me. I told you that was mostly the demon.”

Hisoka closed his eyes.

“Yeah well mostly doesn’t cut it. You were in control when you backhanded me. You still show no remorse for that or anything else you did. You want me to forgive you but I can’t forgive something you don’t regret.”

Tsuzuki looked out the window.

“I do regret it Hisoka. You are the best partner I’ve ever had and I don’t want to hurt you. I love you Hisoka. So very much.”

Hisoka looked up at him, sensing finally traces of guilt.

“I don’t know who you are anymore Tsuzuki. I thought you loved me. I thought I loved you. A part of me wants to still be friends but I’m afraid of you now. You brought this on yourself and you’re facing the consequences.”

Tsuzuki looked back at him.

“I’m going to prove to you that you can still trust me. I’d been possessed for a very long time at that point. He was starting to twist my mind.”

Hisoka took a deep breath.

“The fact remains that you made a deal with a demon to get your way with me. In the process you allowed everything to happen that’s happened to me. Don’t be angry with Hijiri because he nailed me and you didn’t. It’s taking everything I’ve got right now to keep him from hurting you.”

Tsuzuki growled.

“I didn’t know about Muraki! They did that on their own. I’d have never sent that bastard after you!”

Hisoka looked down at his paper work and began writing as he spoke.

“Please, Tsuzuki…I’m under enough stress right now. I don’t need this at work. If you want to talk to me, see me after work.”

Tsuzuki sighed and took one of the case reports, beginning to fill it out.

``
Later that day Tatsumi smiled brightly as Hisoka knocked on the door before entering.

“I came to drop off these reports and take any that need to be finished.”

Tatsumi motioned for him to sit.

“I want to talk to you for a moment Kurosaki kun. I’m very glad your back. But I’ve finished them myself.”

Hisoka smiled as he set the reports in Tatsumi’s inbox.

“That was very nice of you. I was sure I’d be up to my sleeves by now…but I really needed the break.”

Tatsumi nodded.

“You deserved it. Down to business…how would you feel about going out on a case tomorrow? It should be simple enough. Nothing over night.”

Hisoka was silent for a moment.

“What is it?”

Tatsumi frowned.

“A young woman. She was lost when she died and unfortunately she’s been scaring several campers in the area. She knows she’s dead but she can’t find her way. Apparently she’s been asking for help but everyone’s too scared. It’s simple retrieval.”

Hisoka nodded.

“That sounds okay.”

He stood.

“Thank you for finishing the paperwork, and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Tatsumi stopped him by raising a hand and shadows closed the door.

“There’s one more thing you need to know.”

Hisoka sat down again, staring at him.

“Oh?”

Tatsumi nodded.

“Due to the events that took place before your vacation, we’ve put up cameras in certain parts of the building where Tsuzuki spends his time. Do not inform him of this and please act as if you don’t know.”

Hisoka’s eyes widened as he nodded.

“I will.”

Tatsumi looked away.

“I’m monitoring the cameras and…well I’m sorry about this morning.”

Hisoka sighed deeply.

“If I’d known about that…”

He didn’t like people knowing his personal life and the only reason he’d told Tsuzuki was because he thought they were alone.

Tatsumi frowned.

“Again…I’m very sorry.”

Hisoka nodded and stood.

“I’ll be fine…it’s not like you didn’t know about it before.”

Tatsumi looked up at him.

“I’m glad everything has worked out between you.”

Hisoka smiled softly.

“We’re totally back to normal again. He keeps giving me little hints about what he’s going to do for my birthday next month. It falls on a Saturday this year so we’re probably going to take a trip somewhere.”

He looked away.

“I better go. Thanks again and I’ll be sure to ignore the cameras.”

With that he was gone and Tatsumi sighed to himself.

“Be careful Hisoka…I’ll kill Tsuzuki if he hurts you again.”

``

Lunch arrived and Tsuzuki left without a word.

Hijiri knocked on the door moments later and Hisoka smiled softly as he let the brunet in.

He closed the door as he was suddenly but pleasantly assaulted with feathery kisses.

“I missed you.”

Hijiri murmured against Hisoka’s lips.

Hisoka gave a contented sigh and sat down, pulling Hijiri into his lap. He’d forgotten all about the camera.

Hijiri kissed him deeply this time and Hisoka’s arms came up around Hijiri’s neck.

Suddenly he remembered the camera and pushed the heavier boy away.

“Stop…not here.”

Hijiri frowned.

“If you’re not in the mood…”

Hisoka wrapped his arms tightly around Hijiri’s neck and kissed him deeply before whispering into his ear.

“They put up cameras. We’ll have to take it to the last stall in the bathroom.”

Hjiri’s eyes widened for a moment but he nodded and practically dragged the blond to the bathroom.

Once in the only stall with a door and tall walls Hijiri gently pushed Hisoka back against the wall in a heated kiss, his hands sliding down the blonds body to undo his pants.

Hisoka moaned softly as his own hands went to Hijiri’s waist.

“Be…quick…”

He said this in a whisper between kisses and Hijiri nodded, beginning to kiss his neck as he let both pair of pants drop around their ankles.

He turned Hisoka away from him and pulled him back so he wasn’t against the wall.

“The sink.”

Hisoka’s voice was almost panicked.

Hijiri lead him over to the sink.

It came up waist high on the two and Hisoka used this to his advantage.

Hijiri reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small bottle of lube and a condom.

Hisoka stared at it in the mirror for a moment.

“Does anyone know you have that?”

Hijiri chuckled.

“Not  a soul.”

He kissed the blonds neck again as he slid the rubber on and slicked himself with the lube.

“I wouldn’t betray you like that my precious. Did you see me sneak it out of the bathroom this morning? This is why I fed you so much. I had it planed out all day.”

Hisoka closed his eyes with a moan, gripping the sink as Hijiri began. The brunets hands traveled up around Hisoka’s waist to rub his member as he began to thrust faster.

He still kissed Hisoka sweetly, whispering ‘I love yous’ in his ear.

Hisoka was trying to keep quiet but Hijiri nearly always made him scream.

Hijiri also watched Hisoka’s face in the mirror to see if he was doing it okay or not.

He knew if he accidently hurt, or if he was getting the desired reaction.

He wrapped his arms tightly around his lover and gently bit his jaw provoking a low moan from his partner.

“Hijiri…”

His eyes were closed tight and his mouth open for more affective breathing.

“Faster…”

Hijiri complied and soon they were finished.

Hijiri couldn’t kiss Hisoka in time to stop the scream of pleasure that ripped from his lungs.

He let go of the blond who leaned over the sink, catching his breath.

He stood there for a moment and helped Hisoka rinse himself and the sink before pulling away.

He removed the condom and as Hisoka stepped away from the sink he cleaned up too.

Hisoka pulled up his pants again and closed them.

“I’m tired now.”

Hijiri chuckled as he looked at his watch.

“We have time for a thirty minute nap.”

Hisoka waited until Hijiri had dressed himself again before opening the door.

As he did so he thought for a few moments that he felt someone staring at him but as soon as he looked at the closet door in front of them it was gone.

He frowned and took Hijiri’s arm.

“Let’s go. The break room has a nice sized couch.”

Hijiri nodded and the two left.

``
Hijiri smiled softly as he watched his lover sleep, brushing his fingers soothingly over the soft blond hair.

He sat on the couch simply staring at him.

One arm was draped loosely over Hisoka’s waist, the boy’s head in his lap.

He glanced at his watch.

It had only been about fifteen minutes and he regretted having to wake the blond soon.

He whispered softly so as not to wake him.

“I love you Hisoka.”

He always felt the need to say this, especially when the blond was sleeping.

A subconscious fear that if he didn’t remind Hisoka enough, he’d start to think it wasn’t true.

After everything they’d gone through in the last year, he was surprised they were still together.

He was eternally sorry for hurting him.

And equally as grateful that Hisoka not only forgave him but still trusted him.

Unknown to the brunet, despite his outwardly calm smile, inside Hisoka’s mind raged a bloody war.

This was the same dream he’d had the night before.

Blood sprayed across his face as Hijiri screamed in agony. The brunet had taken some kind of attack for the blond and his painful scream shook the blond to the core. “HIJIRI!” Hisoka knelt down to the unmoving form at his feet and cradled him in his arms, whimpering. “Don’t die. Please Hijiri! Stay with me!” Hijiri reached up for a moment and smiled softly, touching his cheek. “I love you Hisoka. It’s okay. Saga will take care of you.” As he spoke these words a tall dark skinned man with golden eyes approached. “Leave him. I’m sorry I couldn’t get to him in time.” Hisoka stared into Hijiri’s face as his hand dropped and his eyes clouded over in death. Hisoka screamed as the tall stranger lifted him from the ground. “NO! COME BACK! HIJIRI!” He never took his eyes from the body as he was carried away. “NO! LEAVE ME! KILL ME! I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT HIM! HIJIRI LET ME COME WITH YOU!” Tears flowed endlessly from his eyes.

Hijiri shook him awake when he suddenly began to whimper in his sleep, the serene smile turning to a contorted silent scream.

“Hisoka…come on Ai, it’s time to wake up.”

His eyes shot open and he sat up, grabbing hold of Hijiri as he began to sob into his shoulder.

“you’re alive! Don’t ever scare me like that again! Please!”

Hijiri blinked and held him back a bit to look into the boys eyes.

“Hisoka, you were having a nightmare. I’m okay. Remember. We made love for lunch and you fell asleep in my arms. We’re in the break room. We haven’t left.”

Hisoka took a few deep breaths to calm himself.

“But that’s the second time I’ve dreamed that! Last night too! It feels so real!”

Hijiri sighed deeply and pulled him closer, brushing his fingers over Hisoka's hair again and kissed his ear before whispering.

“Everything’s okay. Do you want to go home?”

Hisoka shook his head.

“Just hold me for a few minutes.  I can’t stop shaking.”

Hijiri kissed the top of his head.

“it’s okay. I’m here now.”

He held the blond as close as he could, closing his eyes and pressing his cheek against the soft hair.

“I love you.”

He whispered calmly, trying his best to send calming emotions into his lover.

“put the wall down for a few moments. I promise I won’t hurt you.”

Hisoka nodded, eyes closed tight, and let Hijiri’s comforting emotions in.

After a few minutes he began to feel better.

He put up his emotional wall again and simply lay there, reveling in the feeling.

Neither noticed the glairing figure in the doorway until he spoke.

"You're late Hisoka."

Hisoka clutched Hijiri for a moment, the anger making him sick from there.

He didn't turn or move for that matter as he snapped back.

"I'll be there in a few minutes. I'm sorry, I fell asleep."

Tsuzuki growled.

"You yell at me for being late every day but you're allowed to be fifteen minutes late from lunch? At least I have a better exscuse than cuddling with my boyfriend."

Hijiri spoke before Hisoka could even take a breath.

"Give me a reason to pound you Tsuzuki. Please take one more step! I dare you!"

Tsuzuki narrowed his eyes.

"Now Hisoka, or I go straight to Konoe."

Hisoka sat up, revealing that he was still crying.

"Go on then! And make sure to tell him you were late this morning too! In the six years that i've been here I've never once been late so go screw yourself and tell whoever the hell you want to!"

Tsuzuki froze as he saw the blonds tears.

"Hisoka..."

His tone softened.

"You've been crying. Why?"

Hisoka growled.

"Idiot! I'm still crying and I don't have any obligation to tell you! Keep trying Tsuzuki! You're not winning any points!"

Tsuzuki took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry. It's just...Tatsumi's been on my back for two months and now that you're back he's leaving me alone. Without you punched in he's all over me."

Hisoka looked away.

"Just leave me alone okay? I don't feel good and you're only making it worse."

Tsuzuki stared silently for a moment but then turned and left.

Hisoka leaned back into Hijiri, beginning to sob all over again.

"I take it back. I don't want to stay here anymore today."

Hijiri sighed, calming himself.

"Okay. Let's go see Tatsumi and tell him what happened and then i'll take you home and you can take a nice bath."

Hisoka nodded and stood, brushing away his tears.

Hijiri stood as well, gently wrapping him in a warm hug for a moment before they left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  At the end of the day, just before dinner, Tatsumi called Hisoka and Hijiri back to the office.
He stood before the two of them, a small tv behind him and a remote in his hand.
"I thought you might want to see this. Perhaps you can explain it."
Hisoka looked up at Hijiri who took his hand comfortingly.
"Did Tsuzuki do something?"
Tatsumi frowned.
"I'm not sure. I'm hoping you can tell me."
He turned the tv on and began to fast forward.
"What you're looking at is the bathroom door. This is five past noon."
Tsuzuki went in.
"This is fifteen past noon."
Hijiri and Hisoka went in.
"This is half past noon."
Hisoka and Hijiri came out.
"This is five to one."
Tsuzuki came out.
He stopped the tape.
"Was Tsuzuki in the bathroom when you went in?"
Hisoka began to feel dizzy and shook his head.
"no one was there. but..."
He turned to Hijiri.
"I felt like someone was watching me when we left. What if he was in the broom closet?"
Hijiri tightened his grip on Hisoka's hand.
"But why would he go there in the first place?"
Hisoka leaned back against Hijiri.
"Don't ask me that right now. The only thing I can come up with is too much for me to deal with all in one day. But that explains why he was so angry this afternoon."
Hijiri growled low and pulled Hisoka closer.
"I'm sorry."
Hisoka nuzzled his face into Hijiri's chest.
"We couldn't have known...I just...want to go back home."
Hijiri nodded as he looked up at Tatsumi.
Said secretary nodded.
"I'll see you tomorrow and i'll look into what happened."
Hisoka nodded and Hijiri took him home.
~~~~~~~

Hisoka lay wide awake the next morning as the alarm went off.

He was very tired but afraid to sleep.

He closed his eyes as Hijiri stirred.

He smiled softly, pretending to be asleep as Hijiri gently kissed his ear.

"Time to get up Ai."

Hisoka turned slowly, never once opening his eyes.

"Is it now? me or you?"

Hijiri blinked as he thought about this for a moment.

"Are you feeling okay enough? i don't think we have enough time."

Hisoka grinned as he opened his eyes and rolled on top of Hijiri, pointing at the clock.

"Pay backs for yesterday. I set the alarm an hour early. you've gotten me addicted to morning sex."

Hijiri chuckled and reversed the situation, kissing him deeply.

"It's calming and i love listening to you purr all the way to work."

Hijiri's fingers trailed up Hisoka's inner thy as he kissed again.

Hisoka sighed softly, his own fingers trailing up into Hijiri's hair.

"I love you Hijiri..."

Hijiri smiled brightly at this. it was rare for Hisoka to vocalize his feelings and he cherished every single time Hisoka spoke those three simple words.

"This means we can take our time a little?"

Hisoka nodded.

"We have two hours."

Hijiri grinned and stood.

"I'll be right back...i have something new to try."

Hisoka blushed maddly.

"wha...what's that?"

Hijiri shook his head as he walked into the bathroom.

"You'll see."

Hisoka decided to undress while he waited.

Hijiri emmerged undressed as well, holding the lube in one hand and a small blue rod the with of two fingers and about four inches long.

Hisoka stared as he realized what it was.

"Where did you get that?"

Hijiri blushed.

"you know when we went to Tokyo last week and i left you at the hotel?"

Hisoka's eyes widened.

"That was in the condom shop?!"

Hijiri nodded as he slinked up onto the bed, straddling Hisoka.

"It's half the size of a normal vibrator and made spasifically for men."

Hisoka wasn't sure if he should laugh or be very turned on.

"So...how do you plan to use it?"

Hijiri grinned at this and pulled the bed sheet around Hisoka's member.

"Like this..."

He pressed it lightly against the side of the arlready partly hard staff and turned it on.

Hisoka's reaction had been the same Hijiri's had been and he grinned as the blond let out a cry, eyes closing tightly.

"It takes a few moments to get used to."

He began to run it slowly up and down, watching Hisoka clutch the sheets and begin to pant.

he was also now fully hard.

When at last Hijiri took it away after smoothing it around the entire thing, Hisoka relaxed a bit, huffing still.

"in...small...doses...Hijiri..."

Hijiri leaned up and kissed his neck.

"Like i said, it'll take a while to get used to but you'll like it in the long run."

Hisoka shivered.

"i can still feel it."

He opened his eyes slowly and sat up a bit, staring at Hijiri as he sat up.

The brunet grinned.

"do you want to watch?"

Hisoka shook his head.

"I want to do it for you."

Hijiri hadn't expected that but quite liked the idea so he handed it to Hisoka and knelt beside him.

"You're not up yet?"

Hijiri shook his head.

"I have too much self control for my own good sometimes."

Hisoka smiled softly.

"That's good to know."

Hijiri looked into his eyes for a moment, turning serious and kissed him.

"You know Hisoka...I was forced to hurt you before but i'll never hurt you in that way."

Hisoka kissed him back.

"I know...now lets have some fun while we still have time."

Hijiri chuckled and closed his eyes.

Hisoka pulled the sheet over Hijiri's member and laid the vibrator over it, turning it on.

Hijiri began to moan softly as he came up, gripping the sheets the way his lover had.

Folowing Hijiri's motions he ran it gently up and down.

After a few minutes he stopped the blond.

"Are you ready for me?"

Hisoka turned it off and set it on the nightstand.

Instead of answering vocally he leaned up and kissed Hijiri before laying back.

Hijiri shook his head and pulled Hisoka up.

" Wrap your arms around me, i want to be close to you."

Hisoka closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around Hijiri's neck, resting his head on Hijiri's shoulder.

The brunet lifted Hisoka's hips and brought him down over himself, listening to the soft moan as he did.

He began to guide the blonds hips up and down slowly at first but then he pushed Hisoka back down against the pillow and began to thrust.

He never let go of his lover as he kissed him deeply.

Hisoka was beginning to pant again.

Hijiri was pressed as close to him as the brunet could get and his stomach was rubbing Hisoka in all the right places.

Hijiri's thrusting grew faster.

Soon both were so far into their pleasure neither heard the front door.

From the outside Tsuzuki couldn't hear Hijiri's small grunts over Hisoka's moaning.

He knocked again.

"Hijiri!"

Tsuzuki sighed.

He began to walk away when he heard a crash from inside.

Hijiri stopped and Hisoka jolted.

"What was that?!"

Hijiri groaned.

What to do?

If he pulled out now it would hurt both.

He was about to speak when he heard Tsuzuki's voice.

"What are you doing here?!"

Tears sprang to Hisoka's eyes.

"Finish quickly."

Hijiri stared down at him.

"But Hisoka..."

Hisoka turned his head away.

"Take me into the shower and finish okay. just do it."

Hijiri sighed, shaking his head.

Nothing felt worse than Hisoka's tears.

He felt the preasure beginning to release already, body shivering.

"I'm done."

He pulled out carefully and wrapped the sheet around his waist before covering Hisoka with the blacket and opening the door.

there he found no one but Tsuzuki.

"I live here Tsuzuki. i've been living here for a year and eight months. the question is....what are you doing here?"

just behind Hijiri Tsuzuki could see Hisoka's tear streaked face and sighed.

"There was someone else here."

Hijiri growled and closed the door behind him so he couldn't see Hisoka anymore.

"Oh? Who was it? Your hand helping you get off?"

Tsuzuki glaired.

"Actually until he screamed your name i was very worried and i wouldn't get off on you!"

In a split second Hisoka was out the door and had slapped Tsuzuki hard across the face.

"BASTARD!"

He screamed as Hijiri came out of his shock and pulled him back.

The robe fell open at the blonds chest with the effort.

"Get out of my house!"

Tsuzuki simply stared in shock, unable to speak.

Hijiri pulled him back into the bedroom softly.

"Hisoka..."

The blond sat down on the bed, dragging his fingers through his bangs to clutch at his head.

"Make him leave or he'll regret it! i'm done! What the hell is he doing here anyway?!"

Hijiri turned to the older brunet.

"Well? I think that's a damn good question."

He glanced out the window before speaking suddenly.

"Konoe wanted me to tell you that he wants us to leave from here and that he wants to see you when we get back. He called me half an hour ago."

Hisoka looked up at him.

"If you heard us why didn't you just leave and come back closer to time?"

Tsuzuki looked him dead in the eye.

"I told you. Someone else was here. They broke that vase and i heard the crash."

Hijiri huffed.

"You probably broke it..."

Hisoka glaired, cutting off his words without speaking.

Tsuzuki bit his tongue knowing what he had to say in reply would severely upset Hisoka.

The blond picked up the phone on the night stand and dialed a number.

The person on the other end answered on the first ring.

"Tatsumi speaking."

Hisoka clutched the blanket he was sitting on in sickness before he spoke, feeling his stomach attempt to come up his throat.

"I have to see you later. please come by after work."

Tatsumi paused for a moment.

"Is something wrong Hisoka?"

Hisoka broke down into sobs and Hijiri took the phone from him.

"Just a scare. I think i'd like to ask that you send someone out to guard the house. I'm not sure what's going on but Tsuzuki stopped an intruder."

Tatsumi set his pen down.

"I'm coming now. make sure he stays away from Hisoka."

Hijiri sighed.

"I will."

He hung up and turned to Tsuzuki.

"Go sit down on the couch. if your story is true you'll have no reason to argue. Tatsumi is on his way to talk to you."

Tsuzuki growled but directed his words toward Hisoka.

"i swear to you Hisoka, i was leaving when i heard the crash from inside."

Hisoka was staring at his feet.

"Just...leave me alone okay."

Tsuzuki turned and went to the couch as Hijiri closed the door.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After quite a while of Tatsumi yelling at Tsuzuki while hisoka bawled in his bed, the amathyst eyed shinigami finally fessed up about who was in the house.
"It....it was Enma sama."
Hijiri looked up from where he'd been sitting next to Hisoka, but didn't stop running his fingers up and down the blonds back.
Tatsumi didn't believe him but before he could get in another word Hijiri called to him.
"Tatsumi-san. may i speak to you for a moment?"
Tatsumi glaired at Tsuzuki.
"don't move."
Tsuzuki sighed and nodded.
Tatsumi went into the bedroom and closed the door.
"Are you feeling any better Hisoka?"
He sat up and looked at him, tears streaming down his cheeks and Tatsumi knew the answer.
"No Tatsumi-san...i won't feel better until he leaves Meifu."
Tatsumi frowned.
"Hisoka..."
but he could think of nothing else.
He certainly couldn't blame the boy.
Hijiri looked up at Hisoka.
"Actually...he may be telling the truth. He said it was Enma who was here."
Hisoka looked startled.
"but why would he be here?"
Hijiri shook his head.
"not now. i'll talk to him while you're gone and find out, but i have my suspicions."
then into his ear he whispered.
"Obviously it was important enough that he stayed. he may have broken the vase to stop us and get our attention but Tsuzuki surprised him."
Hisoka whimpered.
"but i don't like you going down there by yourself."
Hijiri smiled softly and took his hand.
"we're the chosen ones Hisoka. he won't force me to stay there until he's ready to leave and then you're coming with me."
Tatsumi tried not to act shocked at this but Hisoka saw the look on his face.
"He's been training Hijiri to replace him. please don't send him away."
Tatsumi was silent for a moment.
"You mean to tell me Hijiri is in command of an unimaginable army?"
Hijiri shook his head.
"Not yet. at the moment i've taken Sagatanasu's place but because i'm stronger than he was, i command his and the third and second ranks. in a few hundred years when my term as shinigami is up, Enma will kill himself and Hisoka and i will take his place."
Tatsumi nodded, taking this all in for a few moments before he spoke again.
"I'll leave you two to dress and Tsuzuki and i will be waiting in the living room."
Hisoka nodded and brushed away his tears.
"thank you Tatsumi-san."
he smiled softly at the blond.
"it's nothing. calm down a bit, and when you get back from the case come to my office."
Hisoka nodded and waited until Tatsumi had left.
He looked back at Hijiri.
"i don't want to go."
Hijiri sighed.
"i know. just be careful okay?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hijiri appeared kneeling before Enma.

The dark haired man smiled warmly at the boy and stood.

“you may rise Hijiri. Is there something you need?”

Hijiri stood, staring up at his mentor.

“You interrupted something this morning.”

Enma nodded with a small frown.

“I was going to try to wait until you were done but Tsuzuki startled me and I tripped into the vase when I turned to see who was at the door. I apologize.“

Hijiri sighed deeply.

“Yeah well Hisoka nearly had a breakdown because of it. Why did you come to see us?”

Enma looked away, glancing across the fire fields.

“I fear something drastic is about to happen. I came to warn you not to use Sagatanasu in the next week or so.”

Hijiri frowned.

“What do you think is going to happen?”

Enma looked directly into his eyes.

“one of my more powerful minions has escaped. Sagatanasu was his successor. He was imprisoned as punishment for something that happened long before Tsuzuki was even born…something I cannot tell you right now. Your lover may be his target. Guard him close and only use your own powers. He is evenly matched with your servant.”

Hijiri growled at the thought of Hisoka being hurt.

“If this thing comes after us…I will kill it if it tries to hurt Hisoka.”

Enma nodded.

“I understand. Do what you must.”

Hijiri turned on his heel and disappeared as he walked through the door.

Enma smiled softly.

‘You’ll make a fine replacement some day Minase…just a few more decades of training.’

~~
When Hisoka and Tsuzuki returned from their mission, Tatsumi wanted to speak to the blond alone.

He knocked softly on the secretaries door and waited for a monotonous

“Come in.”

before opening the door.

He left it open and sat across from the man who looked up with a frown.

“Kurosaki-kun…I’m afraid I have some bad news for you and Hijiri.”

Hisoka looked worried.

“What is it?”

Tatsumi set down his pen and looked directly into Hisoka’s eyes.

“Many years ago there was a demon general who escaped from hell and lived a mortal life. He’s been in hibernation for about a century, but now he’s been awakened and we have reason to believe he may be after you.”

He shivered.

“What are we supposed to do?”

Tatsumi frowned deeper at this.

“That’s the difficult part. You can’t do anything. We’re sending Hijiri and Watari to the area but until it’s gone we have to keep you in hiding.”

His eyes widened as he stood.

“No! You can’t send him out there without me!”

Tatsumi stood as well and his shadows closed the door.

“I have direct orders from him to keep you protected and that’s what I’ll do. Ordinarily I’d mind my own business but we’re talking about total destruction of both Meifu and the mortal world if we don’t kill this thing while we can! If you’re there he’ll be more mindful of you than himself! Do you want to send him to his death?!”

Hisoka whimpered as he began to back away.

“I can help him!”

Tatsumi sighed deeply.

“Hisoka…please don’t make me take steps. He wants you to be safe and you don’t have the kind of power it takes to even try to kill this thing.”

Hisoka shook his head.

“I don’t believe you! Why wouldn’t he tell me himself?!”

Suddenly warm arms wrapped around him from behind and there was a feather light kiss to his neck.

“Shh…because I wasn’t sure if I’d still be with Enma when you returned or not. I can’t risk losing you Hisoka, and he’s right. I always put your safety before my own life. I need you to be somewhere he can’t find you.”

Hisoka turned to him, feeling slightly dizzy.

“Hijiri…”

He looked into the matching eyes.

“I’m really scared about this. That dream meant something. I’m sure of it. If I’m not with you…”

Hijiri placed a finger to Hisoka’s lips softly.

“Don’t you see the message of your own dream? It’s the opposite. If you’re with me I’ll fail. I want to come back to you and I promise I will…if you stay here.”

Tears filled the blonds eyes.

“How long?”

Hijiri looked away with a deep concern in his eyes.

“I don’t really know. Just promise me you’ll stay here.”

He looked back into Hisoka’s eyes and kissed him softly.

“I…I promise. For you. But if you don’t come back to me I will kill myself.”

Hijiri sighed.

“Don’t talk like that. I have an entire plane of existence to rule over and a beautiful, loving god of death to rule it with me. I’ll come back to you.”

He kissed Hisoka again, deeply this time.

When he broke away again he looked into his eyes.

“We have the rest of the day. I leave in the morning and you can’t know where you’re going. Close your eyes and when you wake you’ll be safe.”

His eyes widened as Hijiri’s words hit him.

“What?!”

But before he could speak again, Hijiri waved his hand over Hisoka’s eyes and the blond fell limp into his arms with a soft sigh.

Tatsumi stared up at him, looking worried.

“Is he okay?”

Hijiri nodded.

“I’ll bring him back once the demon is gone.”

And with that he disappeared.

~~

   Hisoka woke slowly in a familiar feather bed.

Red and gold silks lined feather pillows and soft mesh hung from the four posters.

Hijiri lay sleeping beside him, arm wrapped tightly around his waist as if he were falling.

“Hijiri?”

The brunet woke with a start and sat up.

“I was so scared. You’ve never slept that long.”

Hisoka tried to sit up but the room began to spin and he laid back.

“Where are we?”

Hijiri frowned.

“Enma’s palace. This is my bedroom.”

Hisoka stared up at Hijiri.

“I’m supposed to stay here?”

His heart was beginning to beat quickly.

Hijiri reached out and gently brushed his fingers over the blond strands.

“You’ll be safe here Hisoka. I know you don’t like him, but Enma will protect you. As long as you stay inside the palace you’ll be fine. I’ll come for you when it’s over.”

Hisoka closed his eyes again, the room beginning to spin again despite laying down already.

“Enma isn’t my only fear in this place.”

Hijiri frowned, lifting Hisoka into his arms, resting the blonds head on his shoulder.

“It’s okay Hisoka. I’ve sealed the entire east wing so that only Enma can get in. I imagine you’ll want to spend time in the library. I’ll take you there in a moment. But you really scared me. Why did you sleep so long?”

Hisoka moaned softly.

“I…didn’t sleep at all last night.”

Hijiri’s eyes widened.

“But I thought you were asleep this morning! And then you wanted to have sex?! No wonder. Hisoka don’t ever do that again!”

Hisoka sighed deeply.

“I didn’t want to have that dream again.”

Hijiri held him tightly and kissed his head.

“I love you so much. Please don’t scare me like that again.”

Hisoka’s heart was beginning to calm and he was able to look into Hijiri’s eyes.

“I’m sorry. Hopefully I’ve prevented the reality from coming true and I’ll sleep okay again when you come home.”

Hijiri nodded, kissing him softly before speaking again.

“You need to sleep regularly while you’re here too though. I’ll make this as quick as possible. Let’s sleep more now while we can. We’ll get up early and I’ll stay here and hold you for every second possible.”

Hisoka nodded and laid back, pulling away from Hijiri.

“I don’t know why, but I just don’t feel safe here.”

Hijiri frowned as he laid down again and wrapped his arm around Hisoka, taking his hand tightly.

“Nothing will happen to you here, I swear to you. I would kill him if he let anything touch you. And he knows it. Please trust me Hisoka.”

Hisoka closed his eyes tightly.

“I trust you…and I guess I’ll have to trust him for the time being.”

Hijiri sighed and kissed him deeply, waving his hand over Hisoka’s eyes.

The blond once again fell limply against his lover just as Enma appeared before them.

“You heard us I take it?”

Enma nodded.

“I will not harm him, nor will I let anyone. I’ll leave him be as much as he wishes and I’ve taken your spell a step farther. The entire palace is his to roam. There is no one here but myself and you two. I came to tell you I’ll wake you at dawn.”

Hijiri nodded and closed his eyes with a deep breath.

Enma did not go, but Hijiri didn’t care.

He always fell asleep faster when the long fingers of his mentor gently caressed his hair.

“Make sure…”

He yawned slightly.

Those fingers he knew could bring both pleasure and pain were entrancing.

“That Hisoka sleeps while he’s here.”

Enma smiled, tracing his index finger down Hijiri’s jaw.

“Of course my son. And well fed.”

Hijiri frowned but couldn’t open his eyes.

“Only from Meifu.”

Enma chuckled at this.

“I’m not Hades my son. That’s an old wives tale. If you so wish him to leave before you return than he may. I have already promised my loyalty to you both and I will not retract that. This place is open for you and he to enter and leave at your will.”

Hijiri sighed deeply at this and nodded but soon he too was sound asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Hisoka woke with a start early that morning to find Enma standing beside the bed.
A startled cry escaped his lips and the tall figure stepped back.
Hijiri woke quickly and sat up.
“Hisoka?!”
Hisoka stared up into Enma’s eyes.
“He…was watching us!”
Hijiri took a deep breath and stood.
“I told you he doesn’t like that. Is it time to get up yet?”
Enma nodded.
“Breakfast is waiting in the library for you two. There’s just one thing I must warn you about before you leave.”
Hijiri looked concerned.
“Oh?”
Enma nodded.
“The book case closest to the window must not be disturbed. They’re very powerful and dangerous books.”
Hijiri nodded and Enma opened the door for them.
“I have some things to attend to.”
He then looked at the frightened blond, placing a hand over a tassel that hung from the canopy of the bed.
“If you should need anything during your stay, simply ring this bell and I will be at my best service to you.”
He nodded for the sake of making the man leave, which he did.
Hijiri turned to him with a slight frown.
“Hisoka…I told you, there’s nothing to fear from him.”
He sat back down and kissed the blond softly.
“I can’t help it. I know what he is, what he represents. I’m terrified. Just beyond these walls there are thousands of people being tortured and I don’t like the thought that one day you’ll be the one putting them here.”
Hijiri shook his head.
“Enma is not the one who decides their fates. You also have to remember that these people were evil in their lives. People like Muraki. They’re not good people and they never were. They chose their own fate. He simply oversees their punishment.”
Hisoka looked away.
“You can’t possibly understand my heart.”
Hijiri placed a gentle finger under his chin and turned his face to look into his eyes.
“I understand your heart just fine. Mine is simply colder. You’re the light in me Hisoka. You’re the reason I’m not as he is. Don’t let your love and compassion go, but don’t let it stand in the way of justice either. Would you let Muraki go free?”
Hisoka scowled.
“It’s different.”
Hijiri shook his head.
“It’s not. There are rapists here Hisoka. And murderers. How are they different? Because they didn’t rape and murder you?”
Hisoka smacked his hand away.
“Because they can’t all be! Some of them weren’t!”
Tears came to his eyes.
“How dare you?!”
Hijiri sighed.
“Hisoka. Trust me when I say that these people deserve what they get. The fire fields are reserved for the worst of the worst. Those people out there, the ones burning and screaming, they were. They had no regrets in life for the evil they did.”
Hisoka closed his eyes.
“I can’t live here Hijiri. I don’t care. I can’t.”
Hijiri stood.
“When that day comes we’ll argue about it then.”
Hisoka was silent as he brushed away his tears.
“Sometimes I hate you.”
Hijiri growled.
“Hate me all you want. I’ll always love you.”
He began to leave but Hisoka stood quickly and grabbed his wrist.
“Don’t go!”
Hijiri stopped and sighed deeply before turning to watch tears streak down his lover’s face.
“Hisoka…I’m sorry but I can’t change fate.”
He wrapped his arms around the blond and held him tightly.
“Try not to think about it.”
Suddenly he swept Hisoka off his feet and carried him out into the hall.
“Let’s not fight for the last few hours I have to spend with you.”
Hisoka nodded and Hijiri kissed away the tears on his cheeks.
Once in the library he sat Hisoka at the small table that had been set up.
The curtains on the window were heavy and the glass was sound proof so that it was easy for one to forget momentarily where they were.
Hisoka looked at the food set out before them cautiously.
“Is it safe?”
Hijiri nodded and sat down across from him.
“It’s from Meifu.”
Hisoka looked at him curiously.
“How can you tell?”
He looked up after taking a bite of the steak.
“Enma’s food supply consists of no meats. If it was from here it would be something along the lines of berries and grain.”
Hisoka sighed as he took a bite as well.
“How can you trust him so much?”
Hijiri frowned.
“I spent a lot of time here before I died Hisoka. He became something of a father to me. He’s not as bad as he’s forced to let on.”
Hisoka was silent as they ate, wondering if in the future he’d view his own lover the way he did Enma.
When they were finished Hijiri pulled him over to a velvet couch.
“We’ve got an hour left.”
He spoke rather sadly as he looked at the clock and wrapped his arms tightly around Hisoka.
“Make this as quick as possible. I start to go crazy on these long cases away from you.”
Hijiri kissed his ear gently.
“So do I. I’ll do my best.”
Hisoka closed his eyes.
“Hold me for the whole hour. Don’t let go of me for a second.”
Hijiri kissed his neck.
“Of course.”
He turned Hisoka’s head to face him and kissed his soft lips.
And there they sat until Hijiri had to leave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~

   Hisoka had slipped back to Hijiri’s room after that and cried himself to sleep for the rest of the day.

He was grateful there were no windows in most of the building but his extra senses could still feel the agony of the people beyond.

Spending more time there than he had the first night, he realized the ever-present sounds of knocking he heard were those of some souls who’d made it to the wall.

This unnerved him more than anything as, though he knew their deeds were the reason they were here, he wanted to let them in. to extinguish the flames and let them escape.

Hisoka’s sleep was broken by a soft knock on the door.

He didn’t have to use his empathy to know that something was amiss.

“Enma-sama?”

There was no answer and so he stood slowly, senses telling him to be on edge.

He pulled the tassel roughly several times before making his way to the door.

“Answer me. Who’s there?”

Another soft knock was his only reply.

He was about to open it when Enma suddenly appeared before him.

“I’ll take care of this.”

Hisoka screamed and stumbled back.

Enma frowned.

“Sit in the chair in that corner and do not open your eyes no matter what you hear.”

Hisoka ran to it, closing his eyes as his legs gave out.

The sound of the door opening was followed but the rancid smell of burning flesh and a hiss the likes of which could be rivaled only by a thousand snakes.

He felt he was going to be sick until suddenly there was a loud cry in a language he’d heard only once before and the smell vanished.

Hisoka’s body was shivering and he wasn’t aware that he was whimpering softly until he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“You can open your eyes now. It’s gone.”

He looked up into Enma’s eyes.

“What was it?!”

Enma frowned at the boy’s shivering.

“Hijiri must not have realized you’re light would attract certain demons. Ones that are unfortunately not susceptible to incantations and spells. He was coming to take you out. You were in no real danger of him but his smell and appearance I’m sure would have frightened you more than you are now.”

He held his breath as he felt hot tears well in his eyes.

“Why was it knocking? Why wouldn’t it speak?”

The tall man sighed deeply.

“He can’t speak human, he could only have hissed at you and being an obvious misplacement he was probably aware that you didn’t speak his language either.”

Hisoka brushed away his tears, only to feel new ones form.

“What are you talking about?! How can they tell I’m not supposed to be here?!”

Enma smiled softly at this.

“You’re like Hijiri, only brighter. Because you have done no evil in your life, you shine. Your aura shines with a very bright light that belongs everywhere but here. Apparently you’re so bright that you can be seen from outside. Not even your lover is that bright.”

He hid his face in his hand as he began to cry all over again.

“I don’t like it here!”

Enma frowned.

“I understand. With a heart as pure as your own I’m sure this is the worst place for you. But at the moment it’s also the safest. You should sleep more. I’ll make sure the rest know that you’re no mistake. You’ll not be bothered again.”

Hisoka couldn’t stop crying.

“I can’t! I’m too scared now! I can’t stop shaking!”

Enma frowned at this.

“Hijiri wanted you to sleep as much as possible while you were here. Come back to the bed and I’ll help you.”

He shook his head.

“I don’t trust you!”

Enma growled at this.

“You don’t have a choice right now!”

Hisoka curled himself into a tight ball, staring at him, breath becoming silent gasps and Enma sighed.

“You leave me with no other option. Trust me, or I’ll use my powers to put you to sleep.”

Hisoka could only whimpered softly in reply and Enma stood.

With a wave of his hand Hisoka suddenly fell into a deep sleep, though his body was still shivering.

He lifted the small form into his arms and placed him back in the bed.

He rested the back of his fingers to the forehead gently and sighed.

“Sleep well.”

And with that he was gone.

~~

  Hijiri sighed heavily as he and Watari entered the hotel room in the city where the demon was supposed to be dwelling.

The older blond closed the door and set their suitcases down.

“You look upset.”

He looked up at Watari with a frown.

“I had a hard time leaving Hisoka. He was crying…I can stand anything but his tears.”

Watari rested his hand gently on Hijiri’s shoulder.

“He’s safe there. You did the right thing.”

He nodded.

“I know, but that doesn’t make it easier. We don’t even know for sure if this thing is here, just ways to provoke it. What if we’re wrong and it takes longer than we think? I know time doesn’t exist there but that has to only make it worse for him. I can at least count days. I wish I’d been able to tell him everything.”

Watari frowned. “If he knew how dangerous this really was he wouldn’t have let you go. We were lucky to find out what it really wants when we did.”

Hijiri shivered.

“Watari…if…”

Watari grabbed his shoulders.

“Don’t you dare start thinking like that! You’ll set yourself up for it! I won’t take care of him! I won’t! I’ll help him kill himself if you die because there’s nothing anyone will ever be able to do for him if that happens!”

Hijiri closed his eyes.

“It’s a fight to the death Watari. There’s always a chance that I won’t be strong enough.”

Watari sighed deeply.

“You have to be.”

He spoke quietly.

“Because if Hisoka loses you, there will be hell on earth because he will destroy whatever it takes to kill what killed you. Enma may have chosen you, but it’s Hisoka who has the power to control countless armies.”

Hijiri looked up suddenly.

“What do you mean?”

Watari frowned.

“I’m not supposed to tell you. I’m not supposed to tell him. But I guess you’ll need to know sooner or later. Just don’t treat him any differently and don’t tell him.”

Hijiri nodded.

“I swear.”

Watari pulled him over to the bed and sat him down.

“Enma may or may not know about Hisoka’s powers. You know of course that he’s empathic.”

Hijiri nodded.

“I’m certain everyone in the office does. It’s just…a fact.”

Watari shook his head.

“There are people who don’t and it needs to be kept that way but that’s beside the point.”

Hijiri waited for him to continue.

Watari was obviously adamant about telling the brunet this.

“Hijiri I mean it when I tell you he cannot know what I’m about to tell you.”

Hijiri was growing impatient.

“I get it Watari. I won’t tell him.”

The blond sighed deeply.

“Hisoka is not fully human. His abilities and his light come from two very different sources.”

Hijiri stared.

“Well…what is he?”

Watari frowned.

“He…is the reincarnation of a god…a very powerful god. There are tales, ancient tales of a powerful god that was slain in war.”

Hijiri’s eyes widened.

“You don’t mean Hisoka’s family?!”

Watari shook his head.

“He was just unlucky to be born into it. He swore he’d return for vengeance. That’s why this demon is after him. If he can destroy Hisoka before he regains his memories there will be no one left to stop him. He absorbs the energy of the beings he kills.”

Hijiri was thoughtful for a moment.

“So why can’t he know? He’s always depressed because he can’t defend himself the way everyone else can. Isn’t it a good thing if he knows?”

Watari shook his head.

“Hijiri…there’s a very slim chance of there being a Hisoka anymore if he does. He’s a living god. If he remembers that, he’ll forget who Hisoka was.”

Hijiri frowned.

“And the ministry doesn’t want him reclaiming anything.”

Watari nodded.

“There has been peace for the most part for over eight thousand years. For Hisoka to know…”

Hijiri looked out the window with a heavy heart.

“A war would begin the likes of which not heaven, hell, nor earth has ever seen.”

Watari nodded again.

“So you see why it’s important?”

Hijiri took in a deep breath and closed his eyes.

“I won’t tell him.”

~~

  Hisoka moaned softly as he began to wake the next day.

Enma was nowhere in sight as he opened his eyes and he sighed when he found a note on the pillow next to him.

‘Hisoka
   You will find myself and breakfast in the library. Please meet me there when you wake, I have important things to tell you.
Enma’

   Hisoka stood slowly and moved quietly to the library.

He really didn’t want to be near the man but he was also afraid of crossing him.

He found the room empty however as he entered.

Taking a closer look at the books on the shelves he thought to himself momentarily that Enma was like him in his wide array of books.

Everything, ranging from life files to classic plays and poetry.

As his eyes scanned over the titles and names he stopped on one with a start.

“Hijiri?!”

He began to reach for it but suddenly a strong hand grabbed his wrist.

“Don’t touch that!”

He gave a startled cry as Enma pulled him away from the shelf and to the couch.

He fell against it as he was let go of, head beginning to spin.

“Why not?!”

Enma growled as he stared down at the blond.

He had said anything except the case by the window, but he’d also thought he’d moved Hijiri’s there with Tsuzuki’s.

“You already know him. If he’s ever to find out what’s in there he would no longer know you.”

He stared up at the imposing form and shivered.

“You didn’t have to do that! Just tell me!”

He was holding his wrist.

It was sore from the grip Enma had on it.

“Why won’t it heal?”

Enma sighed deeply as he sat next to the blond and wasn’t a bit surprised to see him flinch away as he again took the wrist.

“Time does not exist here so your healing abilities don’t work. They’re based on a sped up version of human time. I’ll heal it for you.”

Hisoka was wary as the mans fingers traced across his wrist in a strange seal that began to burn.

He screamed, trying to pull away but Enma held tight and soon it had not only stopped burning but his wrist was fully healed as if nothing had happened at all.

He stared up into the unfamiliar eyes.

“What did you want anyway?”

Enma stared back at him for a moment.

“You need to know things.”

Hisoka blinked.

“What things?”

Enma closed his eyes and leaned back.

With a wave of his hand a plate of blackberries and various fruits Hisoka had never seen before, appeared before the blond.

“You eat while I talk.”

Hisoka stared at it suspiciously.

“And you’re sure I won’t be trapped here?”

Enma smirked.

“Dear naive child…this is not the world of Greek mythology. If I wanted you to stay for any period of time longer that what your lover has planned for you, I wouldn’t need food or drink or anything of the like to keep you here. However I’m perfectly content to send you home with him.”

Hisoka took a deep breath and was silent as he slowly began to eat.

Enma waved his hand again and a wine glass appeared.

“Now…I know you dislike me and I can’t say I blame you. As a mortal you were raised to fear and mistrust me. But what you don’t understand is that I was a human once too.”

Hisoka stared at him, eyes widening.

“What?!”

He nodded.

“I was chosen by Hijiri’s previous incarnation to take his place so that he could be reborn.”

Hisoka wasn’t sure what to say at all.

Enma continued.

“You and Hijiri have been together and in love for over eight thousand years. You were the epitome of good and virtue, he all that was evil in this world. You saw something in him that no one else could understand and in return he found love for you. When you were killed, he found me…an orphan of the war. A son of the very soldier who killed you…and he took me into his realm, raised me, and then begged me to kill him when I was ready. I killed him so that he could find you in spirit.”

Hisoka blinked.

“I don’t remember any of this.”

He shook his head.

“As well you should keep it that way. Like him, if you remember, you will not be yourself and you would again be separated. As mortal souls you may be together anywhere in heaven, hell, or earth that you so desire without consequence. Reading his life file will remind you of your own life. And the two of you will be lost. When he is fully trained I will kill myself to be reborn into a human body. Eventually you and he may want to do the same.”

Hisoka glanced back at the file on the shelf.

“Do you have mine too?”

He nodded.

“I have Tsuzuki’s too. That one…if you wish to, you may read.”

Hisoka was curious about it but not at all sure he wanted to know.

“Why are they here?”

Enma finally looked up at him, smiling as he noted the empty plate and it vanished.

“Some files are not safe in the ministry. You, Hijiri, Tsuzuki, and Tatsumi at the moment. When you move on they’ll be returned. These files are of people who would be dangerous to the planet if they were to remember everything.”

Hisoka looked back at him.

“So mine is here too? Why is Tatsumi’s here?”

Enma frowned.

“Long ago.”

He stared into Hisoka’s eyes.

“The world was created by four gods. You, Hijiri, Tsuzuki, and Tatsumi…”

He stood and took up a very old book from the shelf.

“In over view, you four were divided because of different feelings. Tsuzuki and Hijiri were the dark. You and Tatsumi were the light. This book will explain most of the story to you. However, the pages about you and Hijiri will not turn.”

Hisoka took the book from him and opened it.

“Thank you…I…really want to read this. It goes against everything I’ve been taught.”

Enma nodded and walked to the door.

“I’ll leave you to read than. I’ll return at dinner.”

And with that he was gone.

~~

In the mortal world over a week had passed.

The battle had ensued between the demon and Hijiri.

Sagatanasu and Watari both had tried to step in and help, but he forced Watari back to a safe distance, and sealed Saga deep inside.

Eventually he was worn down and fell to his knees.

Tears slipped from his eyes as he realized what he had to do.

“Hisoka…”

He murmured.

“I’m so sorry.”

He closed his eyes as he stood on shaking legs.

“Enma…please take care of him for me.”

The demon stood in a human body, smirking at Hijiri.

“You’re weak, mortal.”

Hijiri looked up at him.

“Yes.”

He whispered this.

“But so are you. We’re of equal strength now and, if I attack you I’ll die. But the same is true for you.”

The demon was silent for a long moment.

“But if I attack you, I’ll kill you. As your attack would kill me.”

Hijiri nodded.

“So…”

He took in a deep breath as he called up a fuda.

“All that we can do is kill each other. I swore that if I had to, I’d give up my life to keep my lover safe. I never actually thought it would come to this…but I love him…more than anyone could understand. So…goodbye.”

As he began to attack, the demon attacked as well and both fell, Hijiri seemingly dead.

Every spell and seal he had placed vanished and Saga took over his body.

What no one outside could guess, was that at the last moment Saga had broken free of his bond inside Hijiri and saved him.

Saga looked up as Watari ran to him.

“Hijiri! What happened?! Are you okay?!”

He slid to his knees, checking vital signs and his injuries.

Saga was silent for a long moment, deciding if he should tell him or not.

Hijiri’s soul was laying inside himself, completely unconscious to everything.

He sat up slowly.

“I think I’ll be okay. Did I kill him?”

Watari nodded.

“Come on, we need to get you back to Meifu. I’m sure Hisoka will be anxious to see you.”

He nodded and disappeared with the blond.

~~

In hell, Hisoka had fallen asleep on the couch reading.

At the exact moment that Hijiri’s spells were broken, the only window in that wing of the palace exploded with the force and the dead began to slink in.

Hisoka had been shaken out of slumber with the sound but soon he’d find the smell and sudden scorching heat were the least of his worries.

He screamed as a hand slowly reached through the heavy curtain.

The heavy fabric caught fire and soon fell to the floor.

He ran to the door, trying to get to Enma, but as he opened it he screamed again as he found the demon who’d come to his room before.

It grabbed him sharply and pulled him back, hissing at the blond.

Hisoka was frozen in terror as he watched burnt bodies becoming solid.

One of them he recognized.

The white haired doctor stood with a gleaming grin and before he knew what had happened, the demon was dead and he was in the arms of his murderer.

“You never thought you’d see me ever again did you my popet?”

Before he could answer, Enma appeared and with just a few words, everything was restored.

Muraki blinked and Hisoka was now in Enma’s arms.

He whispered to the blond.

“Your lover is on his way, sleep now and when you wake you’ll be home. I’ll take special care of him for you.”

He waved his hand over Hisoka’s dazed eyes and he was gone.

I'm telling you I had so much fun reading this! Talk about drama. Half-way through I was disappointed to find that I missed out on a prequel, and so I'll have to hunt that done later.

Is it bad that I felt so sorry for Tsu, he seemed so lost and out of the loop in this one----but then again I don't know what happened---but reading this has defintely made me curious. I mean what happened to Hisoka, he seems even more fucked up than before, poor boy, what did you do to him, it was kinda sad seeing him trying to hold himself together in Tsuzuki's presence.

I loved when Hijiri told Hisoka to let down he's walls, that was cute. Hijiri's affulent supply of toys, condoms and lube also cracked me up. And wtf Hijiri is like in control of what!? He and Hisoka are gonna replace who!?

What have I missed O.o

But yeah, very good, well done!
