Yutaka Watari

I'm rather surprised that there isn't a topic thingy for Watari.. coco-chan, you need an upgrade. *waggles finger*

But yes- he's.. pretty, in a comic way, and he messes with owls and dangerous chemical things. And he wears glasses.. and has this fabulously awesome accent. (Am I allowed to fangirl in non-caps lock? O.o)

But really- he does know when to be serious, and he makes me laugh at some of the most dramatic parts.. (for instance- when Suzaku appears in book 8, he has the funniest look on his face. XD) I really do love that man- and he's directiomally challenged, like me~! v^^v

So what are your thoughts?

I love Watari, lovely character, I adore the moment when he met Muraki and totally killed that serious scene with Hisoka and the doctor. Muraki's face was hilarious.

I love the Aries Watari-san. <3 And his darling pets/furry friends.

He's my second favorite character in the series. He made me laugh a loud many times while reading through the mangas. ~^.^~

My favorite scenes: When he and Tsuzuki are going <3's for the crabs in volume four. When he and Tsuzuki became children. (Kya at the cuteness!) Annnnnnnnd when Watari was singing while mising some chemicals that "other world" (the Count's book) in volume five.

But you know what I hate? (Not about Watari! No!) When he's in fanfics, people always have him wearing that lab coat. ;_; Which I can understand since that's almost all he wore in the anime... But in the manga, he had a variety of outfits! Some very sexy and catchy! ;D

I love Watari and everything he does. I often wish he was my friend and I love the whole crazy-spastic/uber-serious dynamic he has going for him. It's great fun to write XD

It also helps that I find pretty much everything he does inherently hilarious x3

Watari does know how to spoil the mood.. That guy is simply too hilarious for words. But.. there's this really great fanfic that I'd recommend for Watari fans.. it's 'JuOhCho Wonderland'.. or something of that nature. XD

Hilarious read. Enka. Crazy Spock-kun. Yes. So worth it. I have fangirled over that story for a good millenia. 8DD

A lot of people seem to harbor a love for MurakixWatari as well...

I prefer Muraki VS Watari myself. Much more interesting >D


Oh but I was going to say something else...Oh!

I think one of my favorite moments of Watari.. out of his serious moments, is near the end of volume two, where he's telling Hijiri that Kazusa died.

I love that panel of his eyes o: There's something about them... I wonder if anyone has scanned them in... >.>

*nods* there's a LOT of people who say Tats is the equal of Muraki.. but I think not.

Really, I think Watari is.

1.) Watari knows him- after all, one doctor knows another.
2.) He has a .. disarming charm about him- perfect for Muraki's open cruelty.
3.) Well, I hate to admit it. But they're both HOT. XD
4.) Muraki can be funny, as is Watari.
5.) Quirky, strange, and both of them are rather.. Peculiar. Not to mention, Watari really is a genius.

As I said in the Shadow self thread, I think all Yami Characters are O.o, but just in different ways.

As you said Tats is often compared to Muraki, and I believe Tsuzuki is as well because of the descendents of darkness thing I imagine, and then Hisoka is often compared to Muraki because of looks and the whole revenge power thing going and the list goes on, and on. I seriously think there's a little Muraki in everyone ^__^ anyway, thats a debate I started elsewhere on the forum, this is a place for our precious blond.

Okay, so, I defintely see what your saying and it's pretty much what I think when comparing Watari and Muraki too. If we're going into the similarities of these two characters, than there's the questionable scientific ethic's they both display, even though the degree's are far stretched, it's still there. And their charm too, as well as the feeling that Watari would probably get on with Muraki, well if he wasn't trying to kill his friends anyway. Their both a little devious as well. O.o can you imagine what would happen if Watari used his smarts for evil. *shudders*

So yeah I see what JiHyes saying.

Oh yeah just to add, look at Watari's reaction to the corpses in book 7 in comparison to everyone else's......

Is that where he says that they're all attratcive "for corpses"? I think that's him and his black/bad humor at work, because he loves to undermine the seriousness of things XD (I love him for that)

I realised it was one of his quirker moments, but can't ignore that all these little things are there. To add, I see your point on Watari vs Muraki, that does sound more interesting. I dunno maybe there could be a Watari vs Muraki in a relationship combo fic. Like some kind of twisted rival slash. lol

I have one kind of like that.

Although I don't see anything with Muraki in it(except for maybe MurakixOriya) as a 'pairing' beacause that implies something consentual..and he's.. well..

...he's Muraki!


Lately I've been giving Watari crazy Sherlock Holmes type recall, and I find that rather believeable... I mean, he is a scientist. (And for some reason I see him having a phonographic memory..)

I shared this with P-chan earlier and I emphasized just what I meant by his scary ass powers of observation and retention XD

Ah, well. Either way, I'm just saying.. There ARE quite a few similarities between them.. Kinda funny, in more ways than some.

Hey, Hey, I was reading about the stuff [disscusion] on Watari though I hope you don't mind I skipped some of it [lazy reader] Anyway, an interesting question for you guys, First, "Who really is the right person for Watari?" [in a nutshell, lover be honest please I won't hit you] and alos has anyone attempted to study him? I once went through a numerology forgast of using his name, I didn't fully understand all the events of his life or death. Hee, Boyfriend and I like to do reasearch. He is more of an internet person and I am more of a experimental person [*wink*].

Blah! I'm just as bad.

I don't think its so much that the portrayal of Watari's life and death is confusing, only that, there's not much given to the reader to be clear about. I'm not sure, maybe Yoko is holding back on us. I do know, that if you want studies on Watari's character......Rhea's your girl. Theres also some other fans that can tell you a lot too, it's just finding them ^^ I find a lot lie in fanfic writers who write Watari's character well, because you can tell they've really thought about these things.

On the note of numerology, I'm curious, what did it say?

it's so interesting to see that Watari is almost split in personality, but he's well aware that he only presents one face to people, and the true face, nobody really sees. Maybe his "true" face even contains a bit of that happy, mad genius look.

(and I can TOTALLY see Tari doing that. XD)

It's true that Watari does seem to have a split personality. I also find it fascinating that Yoko mentioned that when Watari becomes angry he's even scarier than Tatsumi. We don't see Watari angry that often so I think that he may be the type not to be angered easily but when he does then you better watch out.

I think that's true. My father doesn't get angry very easily but when he does then you better watch out.

Watari reminds me of me.... on a .... more edicated level. I see him as being a bit obsessive compulsive. Though, unlike me, I doubt that he's attention defecit :p Rhea and I were RPing a while back and she's got this thing going on about a "scientist's kitchen". Instead of cups and bowls there were tubes and beakers, and instead of measuring cups, there were "graduated cilenders" (gawd I can't spell TT-TT). I imagine he's a decent cook but I get this image in my head of him trying to mix two recipes or making changes due to "educated guessing" and making the dish either a whole lot better or making it completely detestable XD like me.

Hmm, I can see Watari being obessive compulsive. Besides that, he also obsessed with his experiments and trying to create the perfect potion that is gender bending. He's a mechanical engineer but he doesn't seem to have much interest in that.

Also, does anyone know if Watari is an actual doctor or scientist?

I think, but I'm not sure, that he's a PHD in mechanical engineering. Or at least that's what I got from the thieria.net translations.

I guess that sometimes he ends up playing doctor, or at least that's the impression I got. I seem to remember in the first volume of the manga Watari said to Hisoka that he was filling in for the doctor.

LOL!! I can so see that. Watari is probably a professor himself with he's own students and fans and everything. That blond has so been holding out on us.

Watari's my favorite character... at least I wanted to say so. He was the first one in manga in whom I (figural) fell in love. For a long time I didn't understand it - his type irritates me. He smiles too much, he laughs too much, he's too active, to cheerful. He is a character who'd combined all the temperament I... no, not hate... dislike and don't understand. I can't understand these open-hearted people - the world is mean, it'll kill you if you will be so unwary heedless. But a few months ago I've understood why I like him so much.

Let's look at the others.

Tsuzuki. Oh, poor half-demon boy, he's so kind and sweet, but the big bad wolf maniac wants to kill him, he is so poor... let's pity him!

Hisoka. Oh, gosh, a poor kid, the big bad maniac had raped him, and killed him, and he's so young, poor empathic, he feels everyone, he must be hurt... let's pity him!

Tatsumi. Such a dark soul, but we know he has his own demons. Such a story with his mother, he is in such love with Tsuzuki and he's sacrificing himself Tsuzuki to be happy... let's pity him!

Warati.  Confused ................................... Laughing

I mean, he'd never annoyed anyone with those dull-sad-stories. He just lives and enjoys this. I think, I respect him for that.
