I love Utena, i have every box set and every manga so far. The manga goes up to i believe 10 where i live plus the OVA manga and movie. The movie for Utena is actually the OVA...i don't know why they call it a movie. Anyway, the manga is good but compaired to the anime it sucks. I had to rewatch the series twice to actually get it!!! lol! I love Touga!!! Also Saionji!!! If your looking for the Anime it could be on Keichiianime.com...im not sure though. _________________ Not all confusion will ever be cleared up.

Where do you live? In the US and Japan the manga is five volumes, plus the movie manga.
And the movie is a movie, not an OVA. It was released in theaters in Japan. OVAs are straight to to video (as implied by Original Video Animation), and are usually two episodes or so. _________________ But I'll push myself up through the dirt and shake my petals free. | I've only seen the Black Rose saga so far but one day I'll see the rest of it. I admit I first started watching it because I was so curious about Mikage and Mamiya. Plus Liam O'Brien did the voice of Mamiaya and what can I say? I'm a sucker for that man's voice. I absolutely loved the way he portrayed Mamiya. I also find the Mikage/Mamiya being paallel to Utena/Anthy fascinating. |

Thanks a lot Veleda for the link, I'll be visiting there very soon.
Here's my favourite Utena music video so far. I have written a review for it here: http://yaminomatsuei.myfreeforum.org/about269.html
Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ3w6yeXfRA
Utena also has some AMAZING reviews, I don't even know which ones to post, I'll post a few neutrual ones, then one from a yaoi perspective and then later a yuri persepective:
First a few words from them in general:
The series is constantly dips into flights of artistic fancy that are both refreshing and interesting to watch.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is a unique piece of anime.
It's one of those must-see series for any anime fan, and most especially those who enjoy unusual and explicitly strange relationships between the characters.
That, along with all the marvelous artistry of the story and the intriguing characters (Anthy in particular is so much more than is visible on the surface) kept me coming back and wanting more.
Utena overflows with style, intelligence, emotion, and, what I think is the most important of all qualities in any art, humanity.
Very emotionally driven.
This series has become one of the most loved shoujo ai series of anime fans all around.
It offers a unique combination of heavily symbolic coming-of-age fairy tale, layered psychological study, and religious allegory.
Form, movement, shape, music - these are the main attractions of Revolutionary Girl: Utena. All of Utena is directed to a stylized sensuality. It isn't fanservice-heavy - this isn't titillation directed at teenage boys whose girlfriends are away at school. This is a show for girls, and it shows both in its beauty and in its focus on emotional relationships.
Utena is the sort of anime you can watch over and over, each time discovering something new.
With such a large cast of characters and so many issues to address, Utena is obviously complex and the story evolves through four major story arcs.
The direction is superb. Nothing in Utena happens without a reason. It is surreal in the best sense of the word, in that everything is a symbol for something, no matter how strange it seems at first glance. Even the cryptic lyrics of the duel songs refer metaphorically to the characters and the story.
The story is a tale of self-discovery and exploration of the darker corners of the human heart told through a mix of down-to-earth characters, mysterious forces, and grand fairy tale themes. The whole thing comes packaged in a whimsical, artistic, beautifully constructed world filled with fantastic places and storybook images.

I love Utena. Utena is like.. one of the very first animes that got me hooked onto something that wasn't much of a vanilla-pairing. Very nice series, really. But the anime kinda bugged me- the theme that plays when she goes up le stairs? Odd, kinda. But I don't mind, because the entire PLOT is absofrickenlutely BEAUTIFUL.

Really? I MUST get round to looking at it then. I see a lot of people love Utena (YnK) or Anthy (JiHye, Veleda) a lot, but what is it about them you like. Also what are the other characters like? _________________
