"Good thing, then." Kira swiped the mug sitting at the edge of Tsuzuki's desk, downed the contents, and felt herself returning to normal... while her student was being choked to death.

"Put him down, Tsuzuki. You'll have plenty of time to catch up."

Tsuzuki laughed and put Hijiri down as the boy chuckled slightly, breathing deeply. the man looked at them. "We'd been told that he was here, but that he was going to be a demon hunter rather than a shinigami... I thought that was much better for him than coming here." Hisoka leaned against a second desk and crossed his arms.

"They've come here asking for help about Hijiri," he said, revealing a portion of what he'd picked up, "now's not the time to be chatting about that." He looked at Hijiri with confusion for a moment, then gave Tsuzuki a critical look over. The man backed away, suddenly serious due to the fact the empath was so serious about it. "What is it that you two need of me?" He looked at Kira rather than Hijiri.

"Restraint," Kira said simply. "I happen to know that you, Tsuzuki, are rather proficient in these matters. There's something in him.. that we need restrained."

By now, the allergic reaction to that stupid idiot had worn off, and she thought clearly- at least, clearly enough to slam the usual lid on her thoughts and upping her defenses. "And..." This would be delicate, because everybody knew how protective Tsuzuki was about his partners- especially the current one.

"I need Hisoka's help in looking for something."

Hisoka tilted his head to the side, Kira's quickness at pulling herself together again surprising him slightly. He looked at Hijiri then, who was not accustomed to shielding his thoughts from an empath. He raised his eyebrows and looked at Tsuzuki, whose brows furrowed as though they had some sort of telapathic bond. "Please continue," he said, "Hijiri is reluctant to speak and I don't want to make this into a session of pulling teeth. What do you need of us?" Hijiri's face turned red and he opened his mouth as though to retort, then shut it, proving Hisoka's words to be dead on.

"Perceptive as usual," Kira chuckled. Inwardly, she strengthened her defenses all the more- Hisoka was curious and Tsuzuki was probing. "Hijiri's had... a problem for the last week.

He's been possessed by something that we, at the Department, can't track. No trace, nothing. There's not a hint of power that isn't Hijiri's, but it made an appearance before, in Watari's lab." She grimaced at the memory.

"It refers to him as a 'vessel'- this probably means that it has something planned. Something big... and we'd like to take a look at what it is in the first place. If it's a lower demon, we'll exorcise it, and hunt for the leader.

Can you help us?"

Tsuzuki and Hisoka exchanged glances, Hisoka's hard, Tsuzuki's pondering. Then Hisoka let out a huff and nodded, and Tsuzuki leaped into the air, grinning like a pleased puppy. "We'll do it!" he said, "anything for an old friend!! Especially for Hiijiri!" Hisoka looked off to the side but despite his somber attitude, seemed slightly pleased, hiding the expression behind his hair.

"Glad to see you can help us." Kira smiled, and took out a sheaf of papers. "I think Tsuzuki knows what to do with these." If anything, he was known for fuda magic- the strongest of barriers couldn't be crossed with two people reinforcing them.

...hopefully.

"And before Hisoka... looks inside him, I think it might be best if Hijiri tells you what he's been reading up on. What he remembers." This would be trying, but a student still had to learn, despite what happened. Talking about it was similar to a briefing, and Hijiri would have had to learn this eventually.

Hijiri took out his notebook and opened it to the most recent page, taking a breath before he began. "So far he's only shown himself when my... when I was physically in danger, but while he's threatened others, he hasn't actually threatened me. According to my research, this shows that he doesn't actually want me hurt because he needs me for some unknown reason. Most demons his level would simply have taken over my mind and run my body, but from what I can tell he's either aware that we have people here who could tell the difference, or he's trying to gain my trust. At least... that's what it feels like. The more sensible answer is the former though." He paused, tilting his head to the side for a moment as he thought. Hisoka, who'd seemed to have been paying attention more to the window than Hijiri, looked at the brunette.

"Physical changes should be noted when dealing with demons," he said in a scolding tone, "you learned that much when Tsuzuki was posessed." Hijiri blushed deep red at this and looked away.

"I know," he said, "I just... wasn't sure if it was from the demon or not... it could be nothing at all." Tsuzuki's brows furrowed as he looked between the two.

"We can, actually-" Kira cleared her throat. "...know if it's a demon, anyway. The energy signature left behind is unique to its kind. It throws up a force field when it senses that Hijiri's in danger, and the barrier has distinctive energy."

Her eyes softened. "Hisoka, will you help us?"

Hisoka nodded and looked at Tsuzuki before speaking. "When should we begin? I'm done my share of the paperwork and Tsuzuki probably won't start his for a while--" he sent the man a glare, making the older shinigami blush deeply, "--so any time today's good for us."
